Re: wheres the ghost bike?
Sat, April 29, 2006 - 11:16 AMdepending on where it was placed, it could have been removed by the city as a sidewalk or mowing obstruction, or esp. if a local business or homeowner complained about it. If it was attached to a utility pole, then maybe the utility company. If it was a decent bike, maybe someone stole it. Is the one on W. 6th st past, couple blocks past lamar on north side still there? how about on s. congress or for the lady who was killed last week near 2222. There was supposedly oneat E.7th and chicon but it is gone if it ever was there.
I don't know who puts these up or even if there is a group doing it locally. it may just be friends of the killed rider. The ones put up by visual resistance in NYC are well maintained and include a sign explaining why they are there - visualresistance.org/wordpress/
something i might sugggest if you (or a friend) have time or interest in furthering this kind of advocacy, is to come up to the yellow bike project on e. 51st street THIS tuesday at 6.30 / 7pm, as there is a collective meeting. you could propose a ghost bike/sign making (and installing) project and see if they'll let you do it or help out.

Sun, April 30, 2006 - 8:36 AMit was attatched to a utility pole, on a sidewalk and it was also a decent road bike.........so go figure...................i talked to the business nearby, a hair salon and the lady wasnt even aware it had been removed but seemed simpathetic
my idea is this...........ghost bikes stencils..........couple cans of white spray paint..........remove THAT bitches....... -

Re: wheres the ghost bike?
Mon, May 1, 2006 - 4:39 PMlast time i was over there the bike on w.6th was there. i heard about the fatality on 7th & chicon on the news one night and the bike was there before 9 am the next day. my guess is they are being removed by the city, as every one i've seen has been mangled/unrideable, presumably to highlight that there was a collision involved. -

Re: wheres the ghost bike?
Sun, June 4, 2006 - 12:49 PMI would personally like to thank the ghost bike peeps. I maintain the one on w. 6th for Johnny Smythe who was killed there last Aug. So much love to you.
I'll triple lock it to the post before someone takes it down. The owner of the property on that corner has also allowed us to put up a bronze plaque for him against drunk driving and for bike safety. It should be up there in a few weeks......
