I ask... because...as Winkleman would call it the ayahausca vine is a psychointigrator plant, allowing for people to gain an awareness and guidence from the plant spirit itself in adapting to and integrating with the localized mind of the bioregion. In this effect the plant is also a communicator species a mediator between the human nervous system and the natural intelligence of place, all fo the other than human persons of place. If this plant works much the same way as the vine does then it could be worked with to help people in their process of adapting to and integrating to the local bioregion. Though it would take refinement to establish an appropriate relationship this and other local plants or plants that could be grown in ones bioregion could b e very very helpful to people and could aid in quite a bit of healing and personal transformation as well.

I would be interested in whatever information you might find on this. Ayahausca intrigues me but I don't see myself getting to know it anytime soon. If this tree grows near you, it might grow near me too and so I have a better chance getting to know it.

    It grows here in Montana

    www.springerlink.com/content...1108245/
"A phytochemical study of the fruits of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. occurring in the Central Nonchernozem region of the Russian Federation has been performed. Qualitative reactions and quantitative instrumental methods of analysis proved the presence of polysaccharides, flavonoids, coumarins, phenolcarboxylic acids, amino acids, saponins, carotenoids, vitamins, and tannins. The quantitative content of the biologically active compounds has been estimated. It is shown that the fruits of Elaeagnus angustifolia occurring in Russia are a promising source of compounds presenting considerable interest for the pharmacy and food industry."

The leaves of the plant are chopped and applied onto scars. It is believed its branches are protective against the evil eye. The branches are cut and kept for houses, cars and valuable real estate.

thats interesting... syrian rue is used to protect and ward of the evil eye... its also invasive and has many of the same alkaliods...
      fascinating...

The Bark of the tree is a rich source of alkaloids. According to Duke's Ethnobotanical database the badk contains the beta carbolines:

      2-METHYL-1,2,3,4-TETRAHYDRO-BETA-CARBOLINE
      N(B)-METHYL-TETRAHYDROHARMOL
      TETRAHYDROHARMAN and
      TETRAHYDROHARMOL

which puts it in the same catagory as
      syrian rue
      passion flower
      caltrop
      ayahausca

combine that with the roots of demanthus illonoensis Desmanthus illinoensis.... and you might really have something there...

I gave myself over to being kicked by the old lady of the desert earlier this year. nearly 1000mg 15x extract. man that hurt. but she gave me clarity. by god, she did! haha. i got huge respect for her as a medicine alone.

good god that seems to be most peoples story... too much! yes clarity after the insanity... she will rip you apart. hard to deal with... instantly she said to me.. " ok time to deal with your fear of death and pain"
ummm can we do that some other time thats not the intention i was setting here...
" no tonight we deal with your fear of death pain."
                    very un comprising...
i would say that i do not work with her any more because of that but i have loads of respect due to after the fact i am no longer in fetal position seeing visions of people hanging themselves and seeing myself with slit wrists in a bath tub... shes a tough one... good at what she does... maybe too good...

she is.....like a grandmother of a desert would be. She shows love by removing the bullshit from reality, and making you face your worst. For me it wasn't death... She made me deal with my losses. just made me. cause its good for me. Not cause its fun for me. Like you, it was not the intent i set. but it was the medicine i needed. Bless harsh Grandmothers..:)

                          Goumi?
                          en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elae...multiflora

I'm really interested in growing this Russian, sweet olive. Its got nitrogen fixing properties (rare for a non-legume) and supposedly tastes very tart and creamy.

                            that ones different though nick...
it might have some interesting alkaliods but your going to have to look into it...
dukes data base is a place to start...

yeah its funny once aggain how we relate... syrian rue appeared to me as more male, i saw it as a grandpa... harsh father energy, really explored the hanged man archetype the entire time...
i was shown after loosing my mind breifly that there was no victim a part of us always chooses where we are concious of it or not to offer our selves up for the whole... its a choice that part of us that is the whole makes creating a need for much compassion for the individual... sad and beautiful as the whole is...
i learned a lot but im not going back to that again for sure...

We still have some Russian olive here (Iowa). My husband planted it in the CRP tree plot. It was on their approved list, and THEN they dicided it was a thug and he had to get rid of it - easier said than done as it spreads out from the original plant with runners which sprout more shoots up, like chokecherry or hazelnut, but the olive is prickly, so it is very nasty to get into to eradicate it in any way.

It would be nice to know what it might be useful for. It is not an unattractive tree, shrub, or entity, and I know of a couple who have escaped the CRP plot.
