Now this could probably go on a few tribes i started specifically the vegetalismo tribe and i might repost it there...
but on solstice there was something that i experienced that i felt was neat enough to share here...
i had not eaten nearly all day it was a bit of a fast so to speak, the day was spent in prayer and communion with friends and spirit, the forest deer, eagle, fir...
towards the end of the day i was invited to spend some time with my areas more famous musicians. he offered to cook me dinner and we would take medicine together and have a solstice ceremony.
I went to his home and we in his Pea gazabo he had made and talked then he went to start cooking while i was left to pick his strawberries...
and there where MANY... strawberries...

i could not help but really admire this plant and especially its fruit... I ate as I picked as many of us do... and put enough in the bowl to take inside. we talked and he cooked, and we ate strawberries while doing so... and then we sat and discussed the medicine we where about to ingest, i felt it would be better to eat a heavier meal after words and so we saved the food he had cooked until after words... still eating the strawberries... and talking and putting off the medicine until it felt like the time was right.
when it was we ingested our medicine and it came upon us quickly... i was fully immersed and before me was lushes sensuality, thin green vines with red brilliant energy at the ends... it was dripping with just the most sensual energy, it was nearly sexual, as a fruit is the sexual reproduction of the strawberry, i could see how it had co-evolved as a domestic fruit attracting humans with its sensuality. it was powerful its ability attract and reproduce in a nearly lusty way. it drew attention to my sacral chakra and saw work to be done there i saw that strawberry was having a definite effect on it and it showed me that i needed to release energy in my solar chakra to allow that energy to move... i thank strawberry for its assistance and for sharing itself with me. it is a most amazing plant.
It got me thinking today about the associations we have with strawberry its a very lusty and sensual fruit IMHO... lol especially dipped in chocolate... now thats a spirit i would like to meet some day lol
i also started thinking about how we bring a plant or animals spirit into us, it becomes us and we share our spirit with them when we eat them. it is good to honor your food.

yeah. Thats what i love about this tribe - things like this. That is a great connection and relationship you share. When i grew up, we had a `1/4 acre of strawberries. when my mom was rushed about something in the morning, she would just hand me a bowl and pointed at them and told me to pick my breakfast. i remember those early, dewy mornings, as the sun was coming up, picking berries with the robins. (well, they were there for the worms, me the berries). the stillness of the berry bushes and freshness of the morning. Thank you for remembering me my past there, bro. i love strawberries.

i remember this from when i was 2 or 3 years old:

off subject- but Strawberry Fields! woah, weird! my friends and i have been talking for awhile about how we think the end of an era didn't occur when Michael Jackson died yesterday; but more when the Beatles started dying off and how we miss them and all! thanx for sharing our ideas, Travis!!

that's a great experience, thanx for sharing it LLB! i've been told i'm a texture person; not a taste person. meaning i care more about the texture of my foods than i do the flavor. which i can totally see! i've never been to interested in fruits, but i love its juice...because of the texture, again. berries, however, i can eat by the BUNCHES in one sitting!! i guess i rudely, never had an interest in communion with strawberries. they bore me; i see them everywhere. they've become cliche to me. everything comes in a strawberry version. or strawberry kiwi. or strawberry banana. or straw-orange. or straw-chocolate. and so on and so on. the other day, however, i was at a friend's who had potted strawberries. there were a few that had ripened. i couldn't help myself, and when he wasn't looking...i snatched one! when i bit into it, it tasted different than i remember. i think the last time i tasted THAT strawberry, was in my old garden at my folk's place years and years ago. all the strawberries i've tasted since, were artificial; abnormally huge with all the stuff they pump into and taste like water; ice cold and hardly sweet from being frozen longer than on the vine; and whatever else! i forget what food can be sometimes because i'm so used to our version of berries and foods. the flavor / texture i tasted at my friend's was so sweet, yet so soft and delicate. juicy, but not watery. and very, very sensual...i agree!!
i am reminded of a line that i heard from somewhere that always pops into my head once i find myself in the baked goods section of a grocery store..."Fruit is Nature's dessert".

Strawberry....my relationship with her is one of friendship, happiness, warmth of heart and longevity.

Every year during strawberry season we have a visit from some friends who are Mohawk. Always they bring strawberries and thunder water and the 4 sacred medicines. There is a very ceremonious exchange with them of blueberries, thunder water, and the 4 sacred medicines. They joyously arrive with their offerings in hand... "From the Haudenousuanee to the Wabanaki" We give our blueberries and our greeting...."From the Wabanaki to the Haudenousuanee" We exchange the Thunder Water and then drink it together.

The berries are eaten for our ancestors and the water is about life place. Although we are from the same larger bioregion, these two confederacies are separate, each with their own community of place. By exchanging these gifts and drinking the water, we are ceremoniously keeping the bond of a long lasting friendship and placing the spirit of the other within us.

Also during strawberry season, there is much ado about the picking, cleaning, and preparing of strawberries that happens for us on a family level. Strawberry picking is a family activity. We all go out and pick, laugh, play, and in general, just have fun.
