Heya folks....
Well, I just wanted to open up a potential space in which any lurkers who may be itching to de-lurk can come on out and show their faces. We would most certainly love to hear from any and all of you.
And also, if anyone new feels the urge to introduce themselves, tell us a little bit about themselves, their relationship with the land, the bioregion they are a part of, etc......this might be a good place to do it.
Me, I'm Javier. I'm Chilean but I grew up in the States. I live in a mediterranean climate at the base of the Andes mountains in a big ol' nasty polluted city. But I love it. A lot. And I love the Mountains, and Abuelo Condor, and Abuela Puma....
And I have a little piece of land not far from here, which I hope to turn into a self-sustainable permaculture settlement. So far it's going good: I've got Lemons, oranges, potatoes, onions, fava beans, peas, and chard, and within two years time things should be booming.
A big ol' Heron stopped by the farm the other day. What a beauty! Gracias Abuela!
:)
Oh, and I have a fairly decent sense of humor too. Nothing I enjoy more than people who are serious about their work and love, and yet are totally willing to laugh about themselves and each other. So I usually put smiley faces in my posts. Heeeheeehehhehhehe......

Mon, June 8, 2009 - 7:29 AMHey all,
I'm not really a lurker, since I've been joining in on posts here since I joined last week or so, but I can introduce myself more. My name is Bryan, but I'd rather you just call me B. I'm from New Mexico, but am now living in California. I'm looking forward to moving back home next year, hopefully to stay. You can check out my profile for more biographical notes, and I have a blog post where I talk about some of my ideas on Animism, Shamanism, Ontology, etc.,.. I think I'l be around awhile, so I look forward to getting to know you all better as time goes on.
Thanks!
(-B

Re: Lurkers De-Lurk and Introductions Thread....
Fri, June 12, 2009 - 9:49 PMI'm Craig and i live North Burnett Queensland, 150km west from the coast, which would be from Bundaberg (yes they make the rum there). The bio regions change fairly rapidly in Australia as you go from the coast, Some mangrove that haven't been destroyed yet, rain forest, Sclerophyll forests, then to mallee, from there desert all the way across to the west coast.
I live in Sclerophyll forests (gum Trees, hard wood etc...) unfortunately its more cattle country, cause the farmers knocked down 90% of the trees. I'm basically in the middle of no where, plenty of venomous snakes and 3 meter carpet snakes that eat small kangaroos, huge goannas, Grey Kangaroos, a few wallabies, dingos, horny lizards, frill neck lizards, heaps of birds from wedge tail eagles to red backed fairy wrens, red claw cray fish, spangled perch , even prehistoric lung fish, there some of the native animals. Too many feral animals here which is a shame as they out compete the natives in the good times (lots of rain), and natives fight back in the droughts as there better adapted.
We're in our cold season at the moment had our first frost 2 days ago but will hopefully only get them for 3 days maybe couple of weeks at the most. Summers are long, hot and humid, I just call it the hot season. -

Re: Lurkers De-Lurk and Introductions Thread....
Sat, June 13, 2009 - 8:11 AMAlright Craig! Welcome aboard friend, it's good to have a fellow Southern-Hemispherean on the tribe again, lol, not to mention someone who knows what a Sclerophyll forest is. The bioregion I belong to (central Chile) is all Sclerophyll forest, probably not too different from the ones over there.
So thanks for introducing yourself, and I look forward to reading your posts on the thread!
Abrazos!

Re: Lurkers De-Lurk and Introductions Thread....
Sat, June 13, 2009 - 10:25 AMI'm Tanemon. I live on nine acres (three treed, six cleared) in the Southern Selkirk mountains. Big veggie gardens, an herb garden, fruit trees and bushes, grapes. I'm not much of a hunter-gatherer, though I do know a lot of the wild plants. I fly-fish a little. Ride a bike sometimes. Play guitar.
Background in nature immersion, meditation, Reiki, dreamwork. Have experimented a lot in community stuff, incl projects. I'm also (out of necessity) into carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, woodworking, etc.
When I was a much younger guy, I met Peter Berg - an activist from San Francisco who some people feel is responsible for the modern Bioregional movement.
It feels good to de-lurk a little! :) -

Sat, June 13, 2009 - 4:09 PMAlright Tanemon! Welcome to the tribe friend, I know we've definitely had some conversation in the past on the yoga tribe. It's great to see you around here. Feel free to jump into the fray of the BRA wilderness anytime you like. I'm really excited to have you here and all the new voices that are showing up.
Bienvenidos, bienvenidos, bienvenidos!

Re: Lurkers De-Lurk and Introductions Thread....
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 11:28 AMI'm a lurker on this tribe, my name is Nick and I live in a five acre botanical gardens in Southern California. We're doing a project called www.growcology.com here, trying to identify ways to put energy back into the earth and have sustaining food and medicinal systems.
I really enjoy getting to know plants in their plant forms, and have been explaining the concept of bioregional animism to many people as of late. I'm interested in it from both the scientific and the spiritual angles, as it seems a great way to syncretize my belief that we're constantly becoming where we are on the chemical level, and we're connected to everything around us on the spiritual level. Toss in our genes and our ancestry, and the need to understand where you come from to truly inhabit yourself and your surroundings, and thats why I'm into bioregional animism... -
