Bioregional Animist Convergence: sharing place
This summer solstice we will be holding a Bioregional Animist Convergence- a meet and camp out- somewhere in Washington.
The location is still up in the air because we don't know how many people will be attending. So far, potential locations have been: near Spokane, Lummi Island, and the Skokomish forest near the Skokomish tribes reservation. Though the event will be hosted in Washington, the idea is for bioregional animists of all bioregions to converge and share their relationship with their place. If you have the relationship, the means, and the desire, we look forward to honoring the relations of diverse bioregions together.
Discussions on Bioregional Animism will be led by Little Lightening Bolt and specific events and groups will be organized by those attending, hopefully including such topics as interspecies communication, the importance of sacred states of consciousness to animist people, local foods and their importance to bioregionalism and animism, etc. As planning for the convergence progresses, so will the specifics of the break-out events. We will also hold a collective group ceremony on solstice, opening ourselves to the life place and its people, asking the life place and its people to guide us in establishing a sacred way of relating to the space on this important day.
It will be a camp out which will require people attending to provide for their own needs. Encouraging self sufficiency, the way of the heron- a bird person of the Cascadia life place- we will ask that you bring enough of whatever you need to sustain yourself for the days of the convergence and perhaps a little more to share. A space will be available for camping, but we are not sure if this space will require a base fee for the group... once we have a better idea of how many people would like to attend, we will be able to determine where to host it and if there will be any cost to camp. Do be prepared to provide your own food, shelter, water and toiletries.
I would like to inquire about who is interested in attending and what people would like to see happen at this convergence. It will be for you, and for us all, and for our collective spaces, so what each of us puts into it, all of us will get out of it.
please contact LLB and let him know your thoughts.
please see the invite on this tribes events list.

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:03 AMIf at all possible, I think it important that the location not be a place that requires a fee (this may in the end be unavoidable, and if so, then so it will be) I just feel there is a negative effect created by monetary exchange. I will be there, even if I have to hitchhike. This has been something that has been bounced around for a while on this tribe and I would love to see it happen. I think it will give us a chance to foster community and motivate everyone to take what they learned and experience to their life places and plant and nurture the seeds of this work that we are doing. We all carry this vision in our own ways and in the unique ways of our life place! -

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:25 AMYeah me too...I have to travel to Canada in early June for General Elections and also during solstice week there is the Confederacy Gathering and ceremonies. My husband and I have to be there. Be there in spirit though, if you'll also hold space for those of us who can't? -

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:35 AMFor those of you who live in other places and would like to participate in a convergence I would encourage you to hold you own - it doesn't have to bee on solstice either. Use the opportunity to share your experiences with your life place with others - you might be surprised what inspiration grows from that. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:44 AMAnother sugestion I would like to make:
Each person has their own knowledge and experiences with their life place and how to connect and work with life-places in general. I have already learned from some of these people including, LLB, Reene, Nanci, Desert Spider, Erin and well just about everyone on here who has shared with us. I would like to see people bring that knowledge with them and share their knowledge with others. LLB has already talked about some of the things he can brings, and I would like to share some of my knowledge and experience working with narratives and some of my own practices I think could be useful to others. I would like to see a real interchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge and skills occur on solstice. It could be learning dances from the land, communication with other-then-human beings, survival skills, plant identification, expressions of art, scientific knowledge and the possibilities are limitless. I know everyone here has something unique to share and offer to Bio-Regional Animism. -

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 11:58 AMtotally thats what i am hoping will happen as well...
i would also like to keep this free...
the rainbow gathering seems to be able to take over entire national and state forests...
i think we could figure something like that out as well...
where is the rainbow gathering this year by the way? it would be great to have a bioregional animist camp there... -

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 12:02 PMHell yeah! Rainbow gathering Bio-Regional Animist camp would be awesome! I've only been once but I want to go again. Only problem is I take summer classes and so getting away for long enough to really enjoy my self is noat as doable as i would like right now :( at www.welcomehome.org says it will be in Wyoming . . . hmm I might be able to swing that - least for a week. -

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 12:18 PMWell, now that I am thinking about it - I've got family obligations in July so i will have to swing down that way anyways. And if it is in Western Wy near the Tetons - BAM! I AM THERE! We can talk about this latter, but anyone planing on going can meet me at the snake and clearwater confluence and we can see just what the maximum passenger compaction is of my `89 Olds.

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 12:20 PMi am fairly new to this tribe, but i have a wealth of knowledge to share. i could contribute by sharing knowledge on tuning into the rocks and minerals around us....i also have quite a bit of knowledge of the native plants and their uses by the native peoples to this area. right around, and on my property, there are so many native plants we could do some workshop type stuff by harvesting stuff like cedar bark, i think it would be cool to make things like twine from the inner bark, also gathering of the roots and plants to make tea....tons of food to catch, clams, oysters, salmon, crab. a big feast on the island's bounties. it will be harder for me to make it to a gathering outside of the bellingham/seattle area since i have children and my childcare options are in this area.........well i am putting it out there, still have no idea how big of a gathering we are talking about. any guesses? under 100 or over?
i think to do it in a national forest, there are fees and paperwork to deal with, i can try and research that more. -

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 12:29 PM"gathering of the roots and plants to make tea....tons of food to catch, clams, oysters, salmon, crab. a big feast on the island's bounties.":
This is a wonderful idea! Regardless of where this happens I think a feast like this would could be a pivotal highlight.
As for the national forest - you've never been to a rainbow gathering I take it? It's very anarchist in its design they just do it. Then the Feds (mostly forest service) get pist and send in agents (poorly disguised undercover) and will try to do drug raids from time to time. But it has never once stopped it from happening! (Least this is what I gathered from my one experience from it.)

One thought I have about solstice is in my own traditions (partially dirived from Keltic-british heritage) is since it is the shortes night. Kick off celebration at sunset the night off and stay up feasting laughing sharing stories and other cerimonial activities untill the sun re emerges in the morning. :0) -

Thu, March 27, 2008 - 3:35 PMmy thought on what we actrually do as far as any cellebration or spiritual ceremony is concerned is to collectively listen to the land as a group ask the land and then listen, a co-creative act, useing our intuition to guide the process. -

Sat, March 29, 2008 - 12:30 PMi forgot to mention on lummi, there is only one store and it is very small and limited in organic choices. so make sure that you do your shopping before you get to the island......the island is very small with 800 people. we have a post office, two restaurants, grange hall, coffee stand, and a store. thats about it!

Wed, April 23, 2008 - 8:01 PMThere are a bunch of us that can't be there...is there some way to collaborate so that we can all participate from where ever we are in some way? Like Jav is in Chile ... could he be having a ceremony, sharing, or something at the same time? We did this with the 8000 drums and just toald everyone around the world to drum at 12:00 their local time...to create a "wave". -

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 11:12 AMThat is an awesome Idea!
I've been swamped with the usualy stress load of the end of the semester but I hope to have some down time today - where I am caught up and not procrastinating on something else to get a seperate page for the convergence on the page. One thing that would be Awesome is if some one who is attending could bring some video equipment and a camera to make a little mini Documentary for YoutTube. And for you who can't attend create your own local convergences it would be neat to have video of those events to. Even if it is just you going out in your bio-region and having a private ceremony. I like the idea of druming -

Thu, April 24, 2008 - 12:57 PMhehehe... LLB and I were talking about this, but didnt really made it "public".
Now that i know for shure im attending, i can lay it on the table... i can gather video from the activities, the ceremonies
(with previous permission from the attendants who want to participate and share, of course) as well as interviews that can enrich the work started in here while back...
Maybe a layout of topics to be discussed, so we can organize our ideas and insights before hand?

Thu, April 24, 2008 - 3:06 PMI would suggest if people are going to drum...they do it like the 8000 drums at a certain time..their local time. It creates a wave effect. On March 21st when we did it...pretty much everyone reported high winds in their area....worldwide. It was awesome~ Here the winds continued for almost a full day. When you call the quarters like that all the spirits come on the wind and participate in what you are doing. -

Hopi Dance of Life - a ritual passed on from the Hopi Elders to Westerner to assist with personal, earth and solar balancing
Mask Making meditation - mask is created on the face of the participant during a drumming meditation, and decorated based on the the visions experienced during the session (Shamanic journeying)
Costumes/fabric/textiles arts of any kind

Mon, April 28, 2008 - 1:26 PMthere should be plenty of places on this property for camping, so no costs there. there are ferry costs going to the island, and there is only one small store here (pricey with limited organic options), so shopping for things before you get here would be best. if people have extra fishing gear, crab pots shovels for digging clams...etc we could harvest more food.....i was thinking the whole weekend, and we could do a day trip up to mount baker on one of those days maybe sunday.

Re: Bioregional Animist Convergence: Sharing Place
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:37 PMHey everyone,
I haven't really participated in this group much. I'm not a big computer communication person. I just happened to wander my way in here today to see that you are planning this event. Exciting! I will definitely be there if I can. I have quite a few friends who I know would be very interested. Does anyone know Tree Frog Farm on Lummi Island? The people who live there are friends of mine. They make flower essences and grow native plants. I think they would be very interested to be involved.
I could share my knowledge of deep listening, nature spirit communication, permaculture, wild foods, traditional music and dance, and traditional ecological knowledge.
What is needed in terms of help with planning?
Do we want this event to be made public? Should I spread the message far and wide or just tell my friends?
yay!
