Defining my bio-region

I'm sure this must have come up again and again, but I just can't find it - and there's so many posts to look through. I also checked out the websites and blogs suggested on the main page, and no luck there either. I'm probably not looking properly.

I just wanted people's thoughts on how one should go about defining their bioregion? Is it the three mile circumference around my house where I regularly walk? Is it my town? county, or region, or country? How much area are we talking about?
If someone could point me in the direction of previous posts or webpages covering this topic then that'd be great. thanks

Bio-regional boundaries exist in regards to ecological realities as apposed to political boundaries (countries, states/provinces, counties, etc . . there are a lot of maps out there which seek to define ecological boundaries, and they differ from group to group, and even the definitions of bio-region, ecosystems, ecotopes, etc. . . have changed with understanding. In a lot of ways, myself and others on here from North America, find the distribution of Native American/First Peoples languages informative. Initially Bio-regions where seen as drainage systems consisting of many watersheds. All of this information is useful to help you understand your-life place, how it is perceived by different groups. But, from there, get to know you life-place and its personality in regards to relationships with the people (human and otherwise) and how you relate to the life-place.

The link below is from National Geographic and I found it a good starting place

    www.nationalgeographic.com/wild....html

I tend to see ecological regions and areas as overlapping and being nested within larger regions/areas, where as I live in a very ecological diverse place, where the landscape can change drastically in a mater of a few miles.

i would define my bio-region as the area that you interact and live with on a regular basis, its as simple as that, and it extends for as far as you feel it does....
