Hello all! I'm so glad that you've joined this tribe! Alissa has asked me to take over, so I'm now the moderator here. I would love to hear a little bit about each of you--something simple so that we can get a sense of each other. I believe that this kind of a community can be a wonderful and powerful source of support, but it has to begin with conversation.
So...I'll begin. My bio tells a fair amount about me, but I'll give you the Reader's Digest version. I'm a 31-year-old bi-poly woman with an amazing boyfriend (who is my primary). My partner and I are currently also dating a wonderful woman that I met at the first BiSect. I live in the Valley and teach high school English at a Los Angeles private school, and I'm currently working on a collection of essays about teaching.
I'm a recent transplant to LA (who isn't?!); I moved here last summer from Southeastern Connecticut, where I'd lived my whole life. I miss the Atlantic Ocean so very much--not because it's any better than the Pacific, but because it was so easy to get to. I lived in a coastal town and didn't have to fight the traffic to see it. I also miss autumn. Other than that, though, I'm so happy here in SoCal and have no plans to move back.
I am quirky, laid-back, and silly, and I love to laugh. I also *love* to travel.
I'm so looking forward to the next BiSect and to getting to know more of you!

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Fri, June 30, 2006 - 12:37 PMHi everyone!
I'm Rebecca, and I am happy to have been invited to this tribe, and to the party! It's on my calendar.
This is especially serendipitous because I am also a poly bi woman, and I have been through some tough stuff with my amazing and wonderful primary partner, a man, and some woman-tenderness, including just on a friendly level, is a great thing to add to my life right now.
I am divorced and lived mono and het for 10 years while in that marriage. Well, that was silly of me! I am much happier with more freedom of expression in my life, which is leading in all kinds of directions, personally and professionally. I am a Certified Cuddle Party Facilitator and intimacy coach, as well as holding down a full time job until our house gets sold and I am free from mortgage payments. Then, who knows? I love to write, travel, read and have good conversations about real things. I think I might just travel all the way around the world , hitting three new continents, once I can quit this job.
Let's see, what else? I grew up here, but left for college and just came back a year an a half ago. I lived in Santa Cruz, Vienna, NYC and Berlin in that time.
That's all for now. Have a great holiday weekend! -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Fri, June 30, 2006 - 12:40 PMOh, and in the interests of touting that which could make me popular, I have just completed my first 150 hour massage course, I love jogging and karate, and I get rave reviews as a cuddler and in other intimate settings. ;-) -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Tue, July 11, 2006 - 5:12 PMHi April,
Since I am finishing up school and am not licensed, it's not an expensive massage option. I'm told I'm very good, with lots of presence in my hands, even though I haven't got 1000s of hours of experience yet. I would do 1.5 hours for $50 these days.
PM me if you're interested. I need the practice.
Meet you soon!
Rebecca

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Tue, July 4, 2006 - 7:19 PMOf course I'm bi, and I'm here because this idea seemed intriguing to me. Besides that, it is always a good thing to get to know bi people. I find (and maybe everyone else does too) that I'm most comfortable with bi women because I can be myself and not be critisized for it. And being able to relate to someone so well in their interests is great too.
Anyway, since I don't live in LA, I'll probably miss some dates, but that's ok. I enjoy reading other people's experiences, and I hope to make it next time I visit.

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Wed, July 5, 2006 - 5:47 PMDo you live in the Bay Area, Shannon? There will probably be a BIsect in that area at some point. Or you could always drive down for the weekend. ;-) -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Wed, July 5, 2006 - 6:29 PMThanks for starting such a great thread Kristin.
Me, I'm just your average bi, poly, burner, goth, libertarian geek. ;-) I'm a programmer by day, (which is why BIsect is probably the only party with a members area on the website, and the door list is managed by software - heh,) and by night... well, between the goth scene, the burner scene, and the various other cool groups, I'm a very busy girl at night. (Although of course, most of my free time lately has been spent on BIsect.)
I'm in a polyamourous relationship (a vee, for those familiar) with my boyfriend of five years, and my girlfriend of six months. I started BIsect, and of course the joke is I threw the party so I could get a date. The truth is though, I started it because I saw so many girls in the same boat as I was in (before I met Jamie,): really wanting a girlfriend, but not knowing how to go about finding one.
Lets see... other things of note: Cats, not dogs. Ninja, not pirate. Vi, not emacs. And *definitely* dark, not light. -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Mon, July 10, 2006 - 7:49 PMWow, these posts are so articulate. You can especially tell that Kristin is an English teacher. :) Anyway, hello gals! I'm April, your typical Stepford Wife, with a twist, LOL. I'm bi and married with children (grown). I guess I'll be representing the "old school" here since I'm 41. In fact, you may all have to clue me in on the new lingo - like umm, Alissa, what's a burner? Maybe that just means you're hot...:)
Let's see, what else? Well, I work part-time and attend college full-time - nursing major. Anyone in health care out there? No? Well, anyone just like to play "doctor" then? LOL J/K In between taking care of my family, working and going to school - in my massive amounts of spare time - I enjoy hanging with my girlfriends. Since I'm married with sons and work with mostly men, I feel as though I'm surrounded by way too much testosterone! I really need my girl time.
I also started a bi group called Girls' Night Out (GNO) with my friend Wendy for the same reasons Alissa started BIsect. I wanted to spend time with like-minded bi women who wouldn't judge my choices. About 15 gals from GNO will be attending the July 22nd party, so look out! LOL
Warmly,
April -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Mon, July 10, 2006 - 11:40 PMoh, i'm ever so excited about bisect, but not so articulate with introductions. Which is funny, because i identify as a writer.
Mary Bee here, 22 year old burner, quirky polyamorous goofy sort who loves to observe & get out & live! I've got a degree in english, which has resulted in me tooling around and writing for the past year after having worked in odd jobs in the years prior. Hmm! Delightful!
looking forward to talking to all of you at bisect!
(and April, burner = a burning man attendee) -

Tue, July 11, 2006 - 12:33 PMWelcome, Mary Bee!
I love this part of your description of yourself: "quirky polyamorous goofy sort". Hee! I could say the same about myself.
And you're perfectly articulate...and I promise that I don't grade posts! Ever!
Looking forward to meeting you at BiSect. -

Tue, July 11, 2006 - 9:57 PMDon't feel too left out--I've been wanting to go the Burning Man for years, but it conflicts with the beginning of the school year, so I haven't been able to. I've never been to a cuddle party, either!

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 8:40 PMOkay, so, it *finally* occured to me to introduce myself. I think it's an especially good idea since I missed the second BiSect party, and still want to get to know the lovely ladies who are excited about these events! So, this is the part where I have to ask myself the dreaded question . . . what do you need to know about Cat?
So, I'm a biracial, bisexual, third party Burner type of girl. I am a 21 year old UCSB student, with one year left until graduation. I'm majoring in psychology and minoring in applied psychology, which is a fancy schmancy way of saying "counseling". I am working towards a PhD in counseling psychology, and plan on emphasizing in LGBT issues. I'm extremely approachable, and pride myself on being passionate and open to new experience. I have a partner named Brad, who has been a part of my life for 4 years. While I do not consider myself poly at the moment, we are open to such a thing if it happened to naturally progress. So, the long and short of it is that we both are comfortable with each other kissing other girls. Yes, I'm THAT bi girl, good ol' in-a-relationship-with-a-man-but-kisses-women bi girl, the lowest rung of the queer community ladder. Huzzah! And with that "Huzzah", I should probably warn you that I have been labeled the Queen of Dorks. I am well versed in a vast variety of dorky things, and if I had any shame, I'd keep that to myself.

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 9:54 PMHi Kristin and Alissa,
Well thanks to Alissa I was directed to this website and unfortunately I did miss out on the last party but I can't wait for the next! First of all I can say enough of the women running things around here....wow you guys are great! So now on to my short and sweet introduction.
I'm a Southern Cal native, an artist, but work as graphic designer to pay the bills, though I would much rather be covered in paint with jeans and t-shirt, but instead the corporate grind has a strong hold on me...for now anyway! I am fairly new to this scene and would love to get connected with some, or all of you ladies. It seems there's a common thread among many of us, and that would be the passion we all have, the zeal for life and it's experiences. It can be a challenge to meet other women who feel this way, or at least I find it a difficult. I am in an open marriage of 11 years, my husband loves me, accepts me and supports me in all my decisions. I would be best described as a passionate, confident, independent, intelligent, and somewhat aggressive woman. I love politics, spiritual discourse, art talks, debate (healthy), exchange of ideas, passions, desires, goals, good food, wine, dancing, music, and just enjoying life to it's fullest!
Enough said let me hear more about you! Peace and love! -

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Wed, November 15, 2006 - 12:20 AMWell I just got started on this tribe by the mention of bisect in the poly-bi-girls tribe, so I went to the website to inquire further and was told about the existence of this tribe, so here I am!
I live in Costa Mesa, work in Irvine at a stage theatre on UCI's campus, and go to school full time in Huntington, all while having a live-in fiance and 3.5 year old daughter. Phew, that's a lot going on. I am an English major and plan to teach high school English (all of it - lit, comp, and grammar) and have been considering doubling in economics and teaching that as well. We are involved in the SCA (a kinda historical recreationist society,) I'm sure some of you already know people in it or of it. So that means I like camping since that is a big part of the events I attend with them. I also like to cook, but rarely have the time, reading is a passion of mine, and I am one of those weird people who doesn't watch any real TV - I don't subscribe to cable, and don't bother with "bunny ears" to get the basic ones that used to be free with a good clear picture when I was a kid, so I'm pretty big into ending my nights with a movie before going to sleep.
My sweetie has always known I was bi, and is wonderfully accepting of it and we have an open relationship that allows me to do anything from simply playing with other women to actually having a secondary relationship (the later of which has yet to occur within this relationship-what can I say, I'm too shy to meet girls except at parties where it's fairly understood that it's all about the here-and-now, not the later-on.) I really look forward to attending my first Bisect party and catching up on reading the back posts on this tribe.

Re: Introduce yourself! Let's build community.
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 11:38 AMNo, I work at IBT (The Barclay,) so of course UCI has a lot of dance shows they preform at our theatre, but we are actually not affilated with UCI, yet are on the campus. I don't think I've ever seen the theatre department use our theatre, I think they usually just use claire trevor and the other many theatres on campus. If you are not familiar with us we are at Pereira and W. Peltason, most people who even go to UCI don't even know we aren't apart of the school. So to answer more clearly, no I am not involved with the graduate theatre program. -
