Assignment: The good emerging from the bad

I would like to propose an assignment. The newspapers, news sites and television are packed front to back with bad news. So the assignment is this: find something good about the "bad".

For example, you might photograph a flower cracking through the blackened ground after a fire has tore through a forest.

Sound interesting?

Assignment: fantasy of death

ok, morbid theme for today, but something i've wanted to capture for a whle.

Assignment: fantasy of death

we've all thought about how we'd like to go, or even had premonitions about how it would happen. pick your own fantasy, or work with a friend to represent theirs. then put it in pictures. pretty simple, right?

ready, set, shoot! (clarification: with camera, with camera!)

I am always on the lookout for leads, both fun and professional. I am also looking to make friends with the same interests as me!

So this is a picture of a very small root that is located on a hiking trail in the mt. hood area. I call it roots of bone - because it reminds me of the life that we offer to the earth when we return to her; How our bones (ideally) decay into her and then grow into her intricate patterns of beauty.
So the assignment is to look for the beauties in our path that we typically might just walk over - missing the preciousness of their wisdom. Good looking!
Loving the spirit of you all!
Thanks for help on posting pictures!

TRIBE INVITE -- Photography and Zen

Hi everyone,

I know thiss tribe has been quiet for a while (Amberina, I hope you're feeling better). I'm starting a new tribe (well, trying to breathe new life into an older tribe), and would love it if those of you who aren't yet members would like to join, and for those of you who are members to jump on over and post some of your beauty. Here's a synopsos:

<o> Photography and Zen <o> is a tribe dedicated to the ways that photographs impact our lives. This tribe is mostly for serious picture takers, but I've also invited snapshot takers, models, and people who don't know the front end of a camera from the back. We sometimes lose site of the non-photographers, butwithout them, we wouldn't have anyone to show our pictures to!

There are plenty of photo sites on Tribe that talk about the technical side, but photography is much more than that. Millions of pictures are taken every second. We inadvertently see hundreds of photos every day. They're a major part of modern society.

Some of the topics will be:

• The ethics of candid shots
• Becoming one with your subject
• Representing yourself as a photographer with regard to other photographers
• What photo buyers look for in an image
• The significance of photography as an art form
• Photography as an instrument to bring about social change
• Critique of images
• The UNtechnical techniques (such as knowing your instrument enough that it becomes second nature thus enabling you to lose yourself in your art -- stuff like that)
• Erotica vs. porn
• And anything else you want to talk about

So come on by and share your thoughts and/or images.

<o> Photography and Zen <o>

Hi Amberina and the other 14 of you,

Great idea for a tribe! Looks like everyone ate all their turkey before they could photograph it (I know I did). So I came up with an idea for another assignment: Sadness. A perfect theme for such a merry time of year!

I've posted my saddest picture in the album.
