hand drummers. percussionists and bellydancers invited to perform in the streets of detroit, july 12th 2008

hand drummers and belly dancers are invite to perform pure dance detroit street performance will be held on july 12TH, 2008 at 4pm. we dance in the streets rain or shine.

what is pure?
pure is collective of dancers and drummers who take music and dance out into the streets for the purposes of healing and peace. Movements from ancient sacred world traditions including Middle Eastern, Chinese, Romany gypsy, israeli folk,flamenco,indian dance and drumming will be incorporated into the pure experience.dance and ritual create community, drawing people together both emotionally and physically into a shared sense of the divine.as the community participates, no one is a stranger any longer. musicians and dancers will be traveling down the sidewalks and the people mover and public spaces to share their love of dance and music with the public and to pay homage to specific sites. enroute, hart plaza, gm building water front, in front of the spirt of detroit, then ending in greek town. all dancers are welcome.

pure dance rehearsal required for all dancers and musicians to perform
july 7th, 8:30pm - 9:30pm at the detroit talent studio in royal oak
wednesday july 9th, 9:00pm-10:00 pm at the warren family ymca, warren, mi.

hand drummers and musicians do not pay rehearsal fees.hand drummers are hard to come by and needed for pure.easy basic drum patterns. skill level not required in drumming or dancing. if you have no drum and want to play, i have 2 dumbeks for drummers to use if needed.

volunteers to assist drummers and dancers also needed. if you would like particate and do not drum or dance, you are assistance is greatley needed and appreciated.

The Lowdown: Modest Clawson is having a true moment of Zen. Black Lotus Brewing Company has taken root in a vacant warehouse at 14 Mile and Main, giving the city a big piece of the hip downtown it seeks. Extremely bullish on Claw Town are brewmaster Mark Harper, his sister Jodi Allan and her husband, Mike Allan, a financial pro and the brewery's full-time manager. They're the thirtysomething partners behind this spot, open just a few weeks. Harper, keyboardist in the band Black Bottom Collective, has also kept his gig as a Detroit Public Schools psychologist -- all while refining his brews and, with the Allans and a few handy pals, renovating the space.

"I thought I'd stay in Detroit my whole life," says Harper, a meditation practitioner who has degrees in chemistry and psychology from Wayne State. "When I decided to grow up and invest in property, my sister and brother-in-law suggested Clawson. I moved here kicking and screaming, but now it's clear to me that Clawson is ripe for something different. The population is changing. Younger people are moving in. We bring the artisan spirit to town."
