Was there actually dancing there? The last I used to go there I knew some of the bartenders and there was always the regular crowd just chilling out watching Sports and shooting pool & listening to the Jukebox. Anyone here go to Serenas memorial get together there?

matt.od's FIRED! ok, well maybe not exactly fired, but he will be stepping down from his current position as resident DJ and co-promoter due to his insanely busy work schedule. (fired just sounds so much more glamorous...). june 7th will be his last night as a resident, expect "matt's fired" cupcakes in his honor.

i have not yet decided who will be taking his place...but i promise to pick someone who doesn't suck.

also, expect an extra awesome show announcement within the next few days....i'm just waiting for confirmation from the final opening band.

excuse me while i get sentimental for a minute (also, appologies to anyone who already read this in my live journal)

i always get a bit of a high after putting on a successful event. i love it. it reminds me why i go through all the stress that comes with setting up club nights and live shows. after the fact, no matter how hard it was to get everything together....once your there, watching the club fill up, watching everyone dance and have fun, watching everyone enjoy the music....its all worth it!

translate the above message simply to: blackmail last night was better than ever!

every once we've had so far has been better than the last. i LOVE the new venue. it may not be as big, or as fancy. but its in a much better location, with much better management, and who can argue with those drink prices???

intoner and i started out with a cheezy pop set (complete with en vogue and madonna) so that we wouldn't scare off the "normal" people. then went into a tag team set of waxtrax, then power noise. i think i played just about my entire power noise collection (which is about 5 songs). i like dancing to power noise alot, but never end up buying it because its not what i like to listen to at home or while driving. perhaps one of these days i'll but some more.

matt_od impressed the hell out of me with his set, he wasn't even supposed to DJ last night, but ended up putting together a great set. i'll be posting his set list on myspace later.

netik did another great set aswell....i will not be posting his set list though, because it wasn't written down. its amazing how hard it is to get DJs to write down their set lists for me. [info]intoner didn't either.

intoner did a great set after that....he impressed quite a few people with his beat matching skills. and did a fantastic remix of "push it" that caused all of us girls to shake our asses on the platform.

by the time it got to my second set i was drunk...because of this my set wasn't as good as it could've been, but i had fun anyways.

blackmail last night was fantastic!!! i couldn't have asked for a better opening night.

i was a bit stressed out hen i got there....the bar was PACKED with a happy hour crowd, netik did a great job not scaring everyone off by easing into the heavier industrial.....i've never been good at that, i always seem to think half the music i listen to is more tolerable to the masses than it actually is. but luckily by the time i got to the decks more of our crowd was filling in and the rest of the people there were drunk enough to dance to anything.

mitch impressed us all with yet another incredible set (regardless of the fact that the mixer had no crossfader)

matt.od did a great set aswell.....even though it got cut a bit short.....next month maybe we'll actually have pre-set set times.

by about 12 the bar was packed with people who actually came for blackmail. cupcakes were eaten, the dance floor was packed.....we've never had that many people dance, it was great!!!

the turnout was more than i expected, i even got to pay the DJs (that NEVER happens!).

thanks SO much to everyone that came out, i hope to see you all next month!!! and big thanks to niki for being our door girl!

the small piece of the set list that was written down will be posted shortly....and pictures too!

blackmail says goodbye to the cellar......june 5th's event has been cancelled.

the cellar has been taken over by new management and cancelled a few monthly events including blackmail. so unfortunately there will be no blackmail on june 5th. we are currently looking into new venues and new nights......hopefully that will go into effect by july. i'll be sure to keep everyone posted!!! thanks to everyone who supported our almost year long run at the cellar.....it was fun, and i'm sure the new venue will be even better!!!

unter null is no longer on the bill for the chemlab and babyland show, replacing them will be local coldwave band deathline int'l! i'm really excited about this, 3 bands that i absolutely love, on one night! its a shame that unter null cant do it.....i was looking forward to her set even though i'm not that big of a fan, but i think deathline will be a great addition to the night.

next on the list, i have been instructed by jared louche to give out burned copies of the new chemlab remix album (kinda a "fuck you" martin atkins for not giving him any promo copies of the album) so if you are a DJ in the city, bring me a blank CD and i'll make you one.....but the catch is you have to be willing to play it.....i dont want to waste my time making CDs for people who aren't going to play them, and jared really deserves the promotion. there are some really great mixes on this album!

most of you know my stance on the current industrial scene, and my desire to bring back the coldwave days i seem to be stuck in. a strange thing happened while i was in NY last month for the chemlab show, a guy gave us a CD of his band, and it didn't suck. infact, it was really really good. the band i'm refering to is "cyanotic", and they have managed to bring back everything i love about coldwave and guitars in industrial music that hasn't really been done right since the long gone days of the 90s. this is why i am pleased to announce we will be giving out a few copies of their new album "transhuman" at the next blackmail. supplies are limited, so show up early! i also have a few copies of the "dark sonus compilation" to give away.

FUN! It was awesome of everyone to come out. Vera Blue and I really enjoyed ourselves. It was cool to see our friends and to even meet a few new people. Blackmail is really turning into a lot of fun and i can imagine it will only get better each month.

well well...the last couple of days have been the scene of quite some festivities; the placid young teenager i had expected to meet at mission has at some point transformed into a raging drunk-fiend, and we duly embarked on a hectic journey of depravity. the fun ceased today, with the realisation of my having spunked a considerable wad of money and relinquished a severe amount of sanity. then, having intended to call you, it appears that your phone number had been one of the first casualties of the good fight. lost, i can only presume, on the beer-stained floor of some god-forsaken dive in mission.

then it occurred to me - in a flash of muddled genius if you'll permit me to write my own review - that i could not only bolster the ranks of your "tribe," but also reestablish contact by doing so.

thanks to everyone who came out last night!

for the amount of time we had to prepare for blackmail last night, i'm very happy with the results. the night started out a bit slow, but zev was a master at getting people out of the booths and onto the dance floor. we have decided he needs to move here so he can be at all of our events to bring out the best in people. after a few good hours the crowds died down and i thought we were going to have to shut down everything early, but thanks to thomas diablo playing an extravagantly mixed set a second group of people started flooding into the doors around 1 and the party kept going. liquid sky played whale songs mixed with primal scream and the result was something i would have never expected, they went so well together....it was glorious. i finnished up the night with love and rockets videos on the big screen and a really up beat new wave set....seeing daniel ash projected on the wall was a thing of beauty. by the time it hit 2:15 and we finally had to shut everything down no one was ready to stop dancing. but all good things must eventually quiet down, and now we have time to plan out the next event and make it even better! come see us on the first monday of september!
