We've added some extra-curricular tour packages to our shopping cart for those of you who will be spending some extra time in Vegas while attending Ava's workshops at the Intensive.

These discounted packages are courtesy of Leyla Amir, who works in the tour industry here in Vegas. Not only is she an amazing dancer and teacher...she is a great resource for seeing the Vegas sites.

Big Hafla May 3rd with Souhail Kaspar and Rachid Halihal (Phoenix area)

Hi, everyone, I just wanted to update you with information on the upcoming hafla and workshops with Souhail Kaspar. He will be here the weekend of May 3rd and 4th. (Please disregard the earlier date. We had to move it back one weekend). The hafla will be a dance party with Souhail and Rachid Halihal. Also some local musicians, some featured dancers, some wonderful vending by Fashionable Movement and Anaya Tribal, oh yeah, and LOTS of dancing for party attendies. Fun, fun, fun!

Also, don't forget to cheer Souhail on on February 10th for the 50th Grammy award show! He has been nominated for this year's Grammy in World Music for his work with Rahim Alhaj in "When the Soul is Settled: The Music of Iraq."

Now I know a few of you are going to be irritated because there will be classes you want to take the conflict with each other. I am offering my apologies in advance. *sigh*...if only I had 2 full weeks of classes to fill...then we might have no conflicts. heehee.

Additionally, just because the schedule is done does not mean that I have all the bios/photos/& class descriptions from everyone. Nor is the shopping cart finished. So, for the moment, just the schedule is all I can offer. I know it's a teaser, but it will have to suffice for the moment.

Belly Dance 007! Also known as This Is Bellydance! was put out sunday. This DVD includes great dancers like Lotus Niraja and the NDC, Sadie, Amara, Dondi, Ava Fleming, Midnight Mirage, and yours truely, Black Opal Dance Company among so many others.

Come see live music that is sizzling, energizing, passionate and unforgettable! Souhail Kaspar Near East Ensemble will be in Phoenix on October 6th and 7th with a series of percussion, music, and dance workshops and a spectacular show with a stellar lineup. Guest artists include the multi-talented musicians Naser Musa and Georges Lammam, and the legendary dancer/insructor Dahlena. The band includes the mesmerizing vocal and instrumental stylings of Naser Musa and Georges Lammam, Miles Jay on string bass, and a rocking percussion section including master percussionist Souhail Kaspar, Majdi Kurd, Elissa, and Joe Borik. Special dance performances by Dahlena, Ava Fleming, Carrie Konyha, Melissa, Neena Nour, Amanda Rose, and Ziva! Souhail is proud to present Ziva from Arcata, California. Boom Boom Bellyfest is just a few days away and we are very excited! Thank you all so much for your interest in this event, we plan to keep bringing you exciting opportunities to expand your dance knowledge.

If you are already registered for workshops this weekend, please arrive 15 minutes early so we have time to check you in before class starts. If you have not signed up for the workshops you plan to take, please note that four of the workshops are sold out and will not be accepting drop ins unless a pre-registrant no-shows for class. The sold out classes are:

Smooth Moves and Combos with Zaphira on Saturday from 11am - 1pm
if you wish to take this workshop, you can sign up for the duplicate workshop taking place the same day from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

The Fast & the Furious with Unmata on Saturday from 1:30 - 3:30 pm
if you wish to take this workshop, you can sign up for the duplicate workshop taking place Saturday morning from 8:30 - 10:30.

3/4 Shimmies with Zaphira on Sunday from 11am - 1pm
we are sorry but there will not be a duplicate of this workshop.

Au Natural Tribal Fusion Combos with Unmata on Sunday from 1:30 - 3:30

Despite the high demand for Unmatas Au Natural workshop to be repeated, only a few people have signed up for the repeat workshop. If we do not meet the minimum registration requirement Unmata will not be repeating the workshop. If this is the case, those who have registered and payed will be refunded in full. We will be making the decision to keep it or cancel it this Thursday, so please make us aware of your intent soon!

Here’s the Shimmy Workshop Description, and you KNOW you want to take it! Who can resist SHIMMIES?!!

3/4 Shimmies!

Take your shimmies to the next level! In this workshop we will cover the classic 3/4 shimmy, with walking, layering exercises and drills. We will also take the 3/4 shimmy to parts of our bodies you never knew were supposed to 3/4 shimmy!

We will cover 4/4 shimmies as well to better understand and get better control of our hips.

To finish off our workshop we'll cover some unique combos utilizing what we learned, Zafira style!

Please bring water and a yoga mat for warm up & cool down.

If you want to take the shimmy workshop I suggest you sign up quick as this one is right around the corner from selling out too!

We will cover phrasing, energy transfer, stage dynamics, texture sequencing/morphing, entrances and a grab bag o'tidbits that will help evolve your dance into a performance

Hip Hop, Jazz, wild staging and more! Do you ride the fence between Middle Eastern Dance, American interpretive, ATS and funky funky Tribal/Fusion?
You'll get a serious kick out of this one. Oh heck, don't even want to do that stuff? I'll let you in on a little secret: technique is technique - it's the
expression that changes the label. heh heh heh SO - we will re-cover some of the techniques from our drills applicable to a few funky combos, and then
expand on their expression. Take the same techniques and apply them to Egyptian (oh wait, you probably did back in January!), then we'll show them in
context of a Tribal/Fusion combination. But the mind bend doesn't stop there - the same combinations make *excellent* accents & embellishments for phrases and exciting combos for Drum solos! (Ooooh, and we'll do them all! Muah hahahahahha)
