Bluefeather for the day (week, war etc...)

OK, now that war is over, how many of you have heard the old "I'm not _______, but I was just currious." or the even better "My wife/husband/partner lets me play at war/renn."

My favorate was a campmate sitting boltupright in bed next to his girlfriend saying "O My God! I just kissed a man!" Boy did he ever. After 4 shots of Regicide (101 pepermint, 101 cinn., creme de mint and everclear) he was into some serious tonsil hockey with another "I'm not gay, I just like to tease" dude at the end of my bar.

What is it about War that brings out a little bluefeather in everbody?

I am Bi all the time it is just at Pennsic where it is easy. In the real world there is so much muckety muck to dredge through with PC and drugs and are you really bi or just a freak and what to say when your done and want to go home... Or the rejection. At Pensic there seem to be so many bounderies lifted where the subculture in the real world is almost off hand and casual. No one bats an eye at Pensic to see behavior like you described but if two girls walk down the street with their hands in eachother's back pockets it seems no one can just not stare. I hae said that going home from Pennsic is like going back to my closet. I get to out myself every year fro two weeks and then for 50 weeks I have to tip toe around, I mean I have the worst luck always trying to pick up the straight chick IRL but at Pensic it seems like everyone I am attracted to is into me, or soon will be... hehehe

I have to agree with this, it's so hard to find sensually or sexually fluid partners anywhere, IRL is SO much harder than at Pennsic or in other 'open' type events.

I'm absolutely bi all the time, but it IS easier to find play partners and new friends at Pennsic (I actually met my life partner there!)

Part of it in my opinion is that SO MANY people who play in the SCA also play in other alternative areas, sm/bi/poly/gay/les...its all a matter of percentages.

I get what the openly bi folks are saying, but my question is about those who tell you right out front "I'm straight, but this is Pennsic..." Is it just that these poor souls are closet bi, is it a case of normal real life rules of "morality" don't apply to their persona, is it that like most men "any hole will do", or am I just a jelous bitch cuz I can't have any of them IRL?

I have to say that the phenomina I'm taking about is not the SCA players also playing in alternative areas, it's the players who, outside of Pennsic, don't even admit that these alternative areas exist!

Well I can't say from Pennsic to know. I don't know many Pannsic folks outside of Pennsic so I wouldn't know their behavior once they get home.. However, I do know plenty of guys in my area that can go for any hole if you put enough booze in 'em. So with the amount of alchohol consumed at Pensic especially in Blue Feather... It would not surprise me to find the closets open for the season and on the down low when they get back tot he office. I know a guy in my merchant district who is so vibing gay it is funny when he hits on a girl. So closeted that he can't pass up a chance to be all macho and it gets really bad. But i have seen him sloshed up drunk at a party and suddenly become Diva Queen of the Kitchen, with the head swoop, snap and all. In sober land he is totally convinced it is all an ast, a show he puts on. So maybe it is a new breed, The super closet cases, just add booze and stir. But really, would you want to have that kind of drama IRL? Hell! I say jump on it at Pensic and dream about it for 50 weeks. That little secret you can hold onto in case the wife gets curious. Send the curious wife to me and you can keep the curious husband - whoop its a party!

It's actually more of a vacation thing that's been around for a long time. Some people just feel more able to break out of their usual mode when away from the usual crowd.

I write slash fiction and a lot of the people I know who read or write it are afraid of their family or friends finding out. It's kinda the same thing, a guilty pleasure they keep in the closet, or locked files on the computer.
