So, knowing what you know now, what are you going to do differently from last year?

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Sun, June 17, 2007 - 9:40 AM1. Not driving a motorhome that gets like 8 mpg. Instead we're either tenting it,
or will have a small trailer by then. It will save us lots of $$$.
2. We willl travel on our own, arrive when we choose, and leave when we plan.
Last year we offered rides to a bunch of people and it was a mess.
3. Be more organized with our gear and take less. We don't have to be prepared
for ALL eventualities. If we need a three handled credenza on the playa, someone
else will have one. It is possible to overpack...lol
4. More blinkies on the bikes and locks. We lost one on Tuesday last year.
5. Look at the schedule for the week and try to get out and see/do more cool things
instead of waiting to see what our friends were doing. I need to do more exploring... -

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:09 AMDoing pretty much the same as Vixxen, especially spending less. I spent around 3k last time - very bad - on mostly things I never even used. I bought mostly out of anxiety. I am going with less is more this time around. I think it helps that I just decided to go this year last week so don't have a full 15months to stress out about it!
Really have to do it on the cheap this time to be able to afford to go every year and to enjoy myself with a clear mind!
Goals this year: Get out of my comfort zone more and be open to things I have not tried rather than sticking with things I know! -

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 11:16 AMAnother thing is last year I made most my food and sealed it up to cook later. I had hardly any quick food, this year I will get lots of quick food and hardly have to cook anything - in wide varieties but smaller amounts.

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:14 AMgoing to be there Mon-Mon instead of Thu-Mon
have known i'd be going for MONTHS ... instead of just two weeks before
bringing own shade structure - although shared work wonderful last year ... different camp tho
making lots of art for Rue Morgue and the Blood Vessel
volunteering with lamplighters and/or temple guardians
watching the city grow (see first on list)
seeing more of the city and the art (again see first on list)
meeting up with more people - hopefully some of those i have pre-playa plans to meet up with, but open to new experiences...
sticking with NO EXPECTATIONS -

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Mon, July 2, 2007 - 1:33 PMSeeing the city grow and the playa change every day was one of my favorite parts of my first burn. We were lucky enough to have great friends who helped us have an amazing first year on the playa. We're much more prepared this year and are really looking to BM 2007.

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:15 AMI'm definately getting some shade to go over my tent, I thought I was going to get heatstroke several times. And it would have been nice to be able to stay in bed after 9am.
And drink more water, I don't think I drank enough last year.

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Mon, July 2, 2007 - 1:40 PMWe'll be trying to get there on the Saturday before BM starts to help set up the theme camp we're with if they get mapped this year (I'm crossing my fingers!!!)
We're also going back into Reno on Thursday morning to pick up our son from the Reno airport. I'm already not really looking forward to leaving, but it will be interesting to see what it's like to be able to restock in the middle of the week.
This year if we get into the conclave I'll be the helmsman for the group. I was a fire safety last year and I'm looking forward to contributing even more to the pre-burn performances.
I'll be trying to get to more classes and workshops and will be taking some volunteer shifts while I'm there.
I've also got a new camera and enough memory for five times the number of pictures as I took last year. I'm going to try to get more "good" pictures as opposed to just getting snapshots.

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 5:31 PMWord on the street this year is - PREPARE FOR WIND!
It appears that those of us virgins from last year had it pretty good - we apparently shall not be so fortunate this year. So, pack them goggles and take 'um everywhere!! -

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 9:28 PMHey folks, I'm a first-timer, coming down all the way from Toronto, got some questions for ya:
Shade structure over tent - didn't realize this was so important. Will a tarp do?
"Quick foods" - examples?
Any advice from people who flew in to San Fran or Reno? -

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 3:00 PMre: food - there are lots of good threads out there on this subject already - several have shopping lists and menu ideas. Search the BM tribe, BM Woman tribe. I think there is an actual BM Food Tribe too! Just remember - take LESS than you think you'll need and remove all wasteful packaging before heading out.
re: shade structure for tent - keep in mind that it will be HOT early and if you're going to bed late at night, dawn, or after sunrise, you're wish to sleep in may be interrupted by sweltering heat! Lots of people bring shade structures for their tents - ie, car ports. Tarps are OK if you can secure it well enough from the wind. We gave up on fastening tarps last year b/c it was such a pain, but were lucky enough to have our tent next to our theme camp's large storage truck - the truck gave us shade to atleast 10 am.

Re: so what are you doing differently this year?
Fri, August 3, 2007 - 7:00 PMI am going to actually look at the "program" and attend things instead of just wandering around, although that's fun too. I am going to drink less booze as I was camped right next to the deep end last year so I had a full cup of frozen yummy all day, and ended up waking up with a horrible hangover- every morning. The best thing that I am doing new this year is- I am playing as an ambient drummer during the burn! And we have a rehearsal on Thursday, during the critical tits parade- so I will not be participating in that this year. Very excited to be drumming! Next year I hope to be a fire drummer!
