bmedia is another name for the Bolivarian Media Exchange, a subcommittee of the Portland Central American Solidarity Committee (PCASC)

We are: radio producers, open source geeks, zinesters, documentary junkies, translators, and film makers based in Portland, Oregon with allies all over the Americas. We find media, we make media, we transform and distribute it; display and elaborate it. We give it away. Our key allies are production collectives and persons, grassroots community builders, immigrant rights groups - with a focus on distributing alternative media from Latin America. We know that the production and distribution of information plays a large role in creating the realities many of us experience. And we know who historically controls that reality making power. And we have some ideas about how that can be changed. And we bring to the forefront that we not merely replicate existing dynamics of race, gender, and class privilege.

Skill sharing is an important part of what we do. Monthly workshops featuring film subtitling, stenciling, silkscreening, puppet making, and radio production are creating models of focused, low-intensity practical learning in various media arts.

Simple entertainment is not enough.
