Despite having the same track name the online version is completely different to the album version and to my mind vastly superior ... I would particularly commend it to downtempo DJs as it sounds great on a big rig ....

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 1:29 AMthe different version of olson if probably the peel session version of the song. and i feel the same way, i enjoy it way more than the original. -

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 7:52 AMThe official title is "Olson (Version 3)"
I wouldn't necessarily say that it's more enjoyable as both have their appeal, but it is a nice version.
They use that weird sample of the kid saying "1, 2, 3" that was also used on their "Dirty Great Marble" track. -

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 9:20 AMsome of those number-y samples are actually pitchshifted recordings from "number stations", shortwave radio transmissions of mostly females reading numbers or characters and broadcasting them infrequently. these are often believed to be connected to espionage and/or black market activities...
there was a 4-disc release called the 'sonet project' i believe that had a lot of these recordings on cd, christopher from ambient airlines once played me one of those tracks all sped up followed by a track off of geogaddi and it sounded almost exactly the same.
www.dxing.com/numbers.htm has some good info on the subject... -

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 6:28 PMYes they are indeed samples from Number Reader stations. I have used samples from them in my own work as well. The 4 disc set you mentioned is called "The Conet Project" more info is available at

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Mon, November 7, 2005 - 6:42 PMWow.
I just want to say that number station stuff just blew my mind.
People have got to start making more stuff like this.
Imagine randomly influencing peoples lives years in the future via a self-sustained shortwave broadcaster. Perhaps one that doesn't begin to transmit for 50+ years.

Mon, November 7, 2005 - 10:21 PMThat is so fucking cool.
I used to also think the Sesame Street vignette from "Whitewater" was an answering machine message.

Re: BOC Oscar Track versions
Wed, November 9, 2005 - 5:16 PMyeah, that track on that record is great, I wish I still had it. There is another track on it I think either Tube Jerk or Si Begg that is good also. It's I believe, remixes of a sample of some wierd rednecky sounding guy talking about huffing airplane glue.
