Ideas for 2009???

topic posted Wed, May 28, 2008 - 8:25 AM by  Woo
So as crazy as it sounds, we've been starting to plan 2009 for a few weeks (even before we went up and actually had Bobo '08).

So if anyone has any ideas for the festival next year, this is the time to start thinking about it....

Poor pizza guy........Everyone that had a slice said the same thing, that it was below sub par. I think my slice was half cooked, with a thin layer of raw dough in the middle. If he would of cooked em longer....He said he didnt do so well at the end, maybe he just needed a hotter oven, baby! I know theres better pizza out there with more fun toppings. I could eat 5 slices per fest of pizza if its good.

I loved the stages but I know Bee Stage was a 08 specialty, because next year there will bee cabins there. Hopefully there will be a new stage somewhere awesome, I know you have tricks up your sleeves for a wonderful 09 adventure for second stage!

I loved the mix of DJs and bands. Keep that up!

For vendors, maybe one less clothing vendor and one more food/drink vendor? I did think all the non food vendors were good, though.

      Fire performances!

Really I wouldn't change much of anything, 08 was EPIC. Great mix of bands/DJ's, good vendors, GREAT peeps, no hassles and ALL GOOD TIMES.

Fire is a no go for Bobo per the US Forest Service

I did find a piercing / body art / modification vendor that wants to do an Oh Kee Pah type suspension by hanging someone with hooks in their back from the trees.

That could be super freak-a-delic. I'd have to find the right type of music to go along with that!

I may have already found a spot for the second outdoor stage.

We are considering going back to the alternating stages ala Bobo '05-'06 to encourage larger crowds at each act.
That would mean fewer total bands at Bobo....but that might be in order...

i loved the alternating stages!! and i definitely think that would help the numbers at each show.

if i looked up in the trees & saw someone suspended there, i think that would probably freak me out quite a bit. not sure what music would go with that.... something a little darker probably. almost gives me the chills thinking about that. sounds both creepy & intriguing at the same time.

word seeing someone hangnig there from the trees sure would freak me out!!!!!! Some DARK creepy music to go along with it for sure. Some light action with that at the right moment to get everyone to turn around as someone is suspended there. dun dun dun

I would do a specialized stage for dj's and one for bands..
Although the David Starfire-Fareed set worked really well
Also more world music and possibly some reggae or dub would be a cool addition..

How about no rain next year? lol

I had a great time all around. Some logistical stuff could be improved, but the good time factor is A+

i know you said no fire at bobo, but what about that little fire circle they had by the teepee in '06? i LOVED that little fire ring, and we had some incredibly epic moments there. if you could bring back the community campfire circle, that wood bee GRAND!!!

i'm sure africa al has some suggestions for new world beat or reggae artists! ;-)

that fire ring seems like its on private land? There HAS to bee some way around the USFS for at least a community campfire, especially with weather like it was. Its REALLY hard to light brush on fire that is dripping with water haha.

As far as the Recycling Crew goes???

I should have made my signs more specific that say:

        Glass Bottles Only
        Plastic Bottles Only
        Cans Only
        Trash Only

Luke and I and his friend Chris ended up doing and sorting the recycling AND the trash...

Other than that everything was good for the size of this festival.

Next year I gather we will need just a tad bit more security and a little more organization, but other than that we handled it pretty well.

        AWESOME.

        BOBO..........................................................

The key to the trash is to have cans in as many locations as possible. People just don't tend to walk very far (or near for that matter) to get to a trash can. Having cans in many places is more important than having a big dumpster in one spot. And signs only do so good. They tend to be overlooked and often misplaced. Then people get confused and nothing gets sorted correctly. I would recommend having different shaped and colored cans that clearly indicated what goes in each. Having the special tops that only allow bottles and cans is also a good idea. Check with local recyclers about obtaining these for next year. If there are no organizations in your area, you could probably contact Nevada County Recycles (nevadacountyrecycles.com) to find info. They work with all the festivals down here (California World, Celtic, etc.).

Heard from an event coordinator friend who was at bobo that a study was conducted that showed cans must be every 50 feet other wise people WILL litter... so more cans would be neccessary. Especially near campgrounds! More security and organization, with work leads are needed. If you have a core group of people involved in the organization process who are instructing returning and especially new-bee workers what they're specific role is Day 1 of the Festy, workers will do a better, more efficient job at their particular tasks.

I love the idea of more reggae and world beats!!!

I didn't eat anything from the vendors, but it smelt good everytime I walked by.

I saw a suspension demo at a tattoo comvention last year. I questioned the sanity of the volunteers, but it was definately interesting to witness.

I see what you mean about the alternating stages ala 06. Bigger crowds for sure.
I personally like the DJs mixed with the bands. Wasnt the tavern the DJ only stage, but bands played there because of the rain? I think that was meant to be DJ only, but the rains changed that.
As much as I loved the DJ acts, I hope the festival (and knowit will) stay band dominated, funky/bluegrass/rock etc. Woo knows how to keep it mixed well!!

~More trash cans out on the first 2 days, seems like the first half of the fest it was hard to find a trash can.

ONE THING I THOUGHT WAS AWESOME THIS YEAR: Porta potty etiquette. There were ample pots and people were courteous! (mostly)

I TOTALLY MISS THE FIRE RING of 06.

Goodness, if there was ANY way to light that up.......would be amazing. Some of the best Bobo memories around that ring.

Toilets were great. Nice to have accessable trash & recycling areas. Food vendors were good and so was the restaurant and bar. MUCH improvement in these areas from last year.
A fire ring would be awesome though, esp. when it gets as cold as it did. Orr.. a stone fireplace? Not that I minded the crowd gathering around my citronella candle to keep warm.... :-)

from my previous conversations with the forest service, they pretty much seemed like lighting a fart on fire would be too much.

Actually my permit specifically said no fire performers...

Killer time, great attitudes. Beautiful attendees and fantastic music. Actually... I really want to compliment the staff and volunteers.
                  THANK YOU.

Want to thank the festival attendees as well... I witnessed many instances of paying festival attendees doing their part to keep the festival good and happy.

One concern is Coffee. The coffee served in the restaurant wasn't the best. That's outside the festivals 'say', I suppose. I would frequent the info booth for coffee, though. The people at the coffee/info booth were beautiful. Friendly, kind, attentive, interesting and a joy with whom to visit... they always made time to chat and swap great tales of festival fun... but often times the coffee was watery and wasn't brewing until between 10 and 11. Many of us festival goers, volunteers and vendors, get up early. The price was right, though. How about raising the price of coffee for good strong coffee and get a body there that is willing to be up early? Just a thought.

                  Thanks to everyone.

i CANNOT live without coffee, that is why I always bring my own, that way I don't HAVE to rely on anyone else. That aside I would have loved to buy some good coffee. Just bring back alpina or another coffee vendor and it should bee good.

Hi all,, We use a Coleman drip coffee maker that makes 10 cups and fits right on top of our propane 2 burner stove. It makes KICK ASS coffee. Even better than our coffee maker at home. There around 30 bucks and sold almost every where.
Just a thought for next year.. or tomorrow. :-)

IMO, we live in california, we should be served the Dank when it comes to coffee, and it should be brewwed everywhere. I got one great cup o joe from the Bobo booth, but other times i went there was none available. I agree with db, make sure that sheeeot is stocked and people are brewin for the crewin. Alpena Coffe a few years ago kept it going well. Personally I cant stand brewing my own coffee at camp and rely on the booths.
