amazing greenery for Bob's

Hey all,

I ran down to 20th & Indiana this AM to pick up greenery (thanks for the catch, Annika). There is a treasure-trove for Bob's there, but we would need transportation and storage. I picked up a small box of vines. Everything else is amazing - and too large to carry:

- a container full of sturdy green vines with hooks at ~3 ft. intervals. Estimate hundreds of feet all told. In a box (~3' high, 4' long, 2' thick) on casters. Would fit in a small pickup or van but not a car.

- tens of square feet of wooden "leaves" painted green and ready to use. Might fit in a car.

- the crown jewel: a 25-30' tree stored in a large wooden container fitted with plastic sheeting and casters. Mounted on a solid base with shrubbery at the root. Looks incredibly sturdy, none of the leaves came off with repeated tugging. Very lifelike. I would love for Bob's to have this. Needs a long P/U truck and someplace to store it. I have neither.

far from having a bar, and art car, and a dj rig.

Here's the (very sketchy) plan.

I've got about 3 gallons of beer in keg. We just need to
ice the jockey box.
Tools: Circular saws, Drills, work gloves (if you want them,
I have one spare pair)
Plants/Chairs/Etc - whatever you've picked up so far

Art Car
-------
Deco the Tractor.
Build the canopy, put the camo net on.
Stage the deco for the trailer. (pull it outa bags, hose it off,
see how much we'll be using for the car vs camp)
Build the DJ Stand for the trailer
Take it for a totally illegal test run around the block.

Bar

Build the damn thing. We got the partz!

DJ System
---------
Allen, bring whatever you want to DJ from. (laptop?) I think we can
test the whole setup (minus speakers) by using other speakers.
I've ordered speakers that are actually in stock, same price.

Early Arrival at Burning Man

Hi all,

Believe it or not, BM is only 58 or so days away.....who's counting? So, I thought it would be good to start conversations about arrivals, camp, etc. I and David (my new man) are headed up on Thursday, Aug 23 as we are working the set up of center camp cafe. That means I will probably be one of the first at Bob's. Do we know where we are camping yet? Can I stake out a good sopt with my trailer and Suburban?
I can offer rides home on Tuesday if anyone needs it but it will be hard to take you up as we are going up so early.

What else can I do to help prior to BM? I am offering money and time so let me know how I can contribute the beer fund or other needs.

We may have some space to build the art car at NIMBY in Oakland. I'm still working on that.

A "Shower" of ideas...

Here's my latest thoughts for a shower this year. Understand that this suggestion is motived by 3 factors:
* I want it to require less of my effort to construct than last year's monster shower consumed
* I want to not have it cost much more than last year's shower, and hopefully be reuseable year-to-year
* I want it to be COOL

So here's what I propose:

Step 1)
Buy a garden shower that's pretty cool.
Consider this $100 one from WalMart:

Or this $120 one from Costco (the one I saw in the store was painted brown, not chrome):

Both of these showers are fed by a standard garden hose.

Step 2)
Put one of our BIG tanks of water up on top of the truck, and use a garden hose to siphon the water out of the tank and to the shower.
This would provide us with plenty of REAL PRESSURIZED WATER!
A small water pump would be used to gradually refill the tank on the top of the truck from another tank on the ground, so we don't have to get it up there full. :)

Step 3)
Create a drainage pond that this shower can drain into. This can be simply constructed from a little lumber and plastic.

Step 4)
We are likely going to generate more gray water than our evaporation pond can handle. We can use another small pump to suck up the excess back into a barrel or other container, and either use it in our fountain for faster evaporation, or dispose of it later.

Kitchen:
A stocked and sheltered kitchen area would be really handy. However, there are tradeoffs between having a single well-stocked kitchen area that is shared, versus having everyone fend for themselves for food prep. The Love Puddle camp did the whole shared-kitchen-with-shared-food thing last year... and I'm not sure I liked that. A nice comprimise might be a "food-prep area" where there are just some tables set-up in a sheltered area, but then everybody is responsible for their own stuff.

Shower:
I'm not going to take on a shower project at the scale I did last year. I think I can come up with a smaller, cheaper, easier-to-construct 2-person shower that will still allow for people to get clean, but without the construction overhead.

Art Car:
My dad has a car-trailer that is an ideal platform for an art vehicle. Many times it has been used as floats in Homecoming and Holiday parades... it's really easy to build whatever you want on top of it. I've been thinking about how to do this since last August. The problem I haven't yet resolved is that it is a trailer, so it needs to be towed by something. It would be perfect if somebody we know has something like a riding lawnmower that we could decorate and use to tow the trailer.
Another advantage of the trailer is that we could tow it out to the desert loaded with stuff. So it would be a hauling vehicle to-and-from, and an art-vehicle during.
Art vehicle ideas: Bob's mobile rainforest? Mobile Dance Lounge with DJ Jenkins? Roving putting green (in the spirit of Casey and my adventure last year)? The King's Throne Room (we could each take turns in the throne, fanned by hot naked women we pick up along the way)?

I was in my garage today, looking for some stuff I took to the desert.
It took me all of 5 minutes to find a sleeping bag, thermarest, and pillow.

This may not sound odd to you. But, in years past, our 15 foot truck got "dumped"
into my garage, and I couldn't find anything for months. So, Special Thanks to
everyone who kicked soooo much ass at teardown.

Teardown was only one of the minor miracles this year. The space we created in
that camp was delectable. And it wasn't an accident. It took all of us being
unwilling to have it go any other way. I've never seen so much partnership
out there. And I know it is only going to get better next year.

Center Camp??

There's a chance we could get placed very near center camp next year, possibly on Esplanade.
Among other things, It would mean we'd have to have someone there for all the daylight hours.

Hi Gang,

Here is a link to some random shots from BM 2005 that I took on our small camera that turns things pink (tm). There are some of the post office being built and of our outing to the Moonshine Tavern and then some random ones. They aren't great photos, but the do make me smile. More photos will come along sometime in the relatively near future, but these ones on the funky little camera come first.

ok...so I did it....I cut off all my curls....my hair doesn't even touch the back of my neck and now I have all these tiny ringlets!!!....it's so cute, I promise next time I see you, you'll love it!!!
