Conditioning...

Ok so i was thinking about this one night when i was out at a bar (gay bar). I noticed this young attractive guy with two other friends sitting at a table. I overhear his friends telling him "it's time he went out and just made a move on a guy and got laid." Watching him stealthfully he approached another guy an hour later. Looked like they were getting along well and having a good conversation when our boy here gets all stiff looking... turns right around and walks quickly back to his seat.
I over heard him talking about how the guy was really hot, very nice, and seemed intelligent. Turns out he just didn't know what to do with himself. Kept asking what should i have said/done next time to let him know i like him....etc...etc

From my observation his hands were in one position... in his pockets. His eyes were almost always directly on the floor and with the exception of a few steps to the left and a few to the right didn't really move at all. THen he turned stiff as a board and ran away.

Now my question would be. Girls...guys.... tell me how (if you ever) had this problem and overcame it. What would you have done and how would you have used your body language to express such things as: attraction and interest ???

I try and use what I know in body language more directly instead of letting my subconsciouses make mistakes for me. If I'm attracted to a girl I make sure that I'm making eye contact and reacting to what she's saying. I have a habit of crossing my arms, but I'm an open person, so I'll force myself to uncross my arms to keep an open posture. I also try and copy the other person's stance and some gestures. Not that I'm trying to be manipulative, but to make certain that I'm putting out the signals that I want to.
