Raks Benazir will be among performers at the closing reception for "Guest Check: Not Just Queer Artists" on Saturday, July 28th. This reception is not only to celebrate the artists' work, but is also a benefit for The Other Side Arts, the hosting gallery, and The Sent(a)Mental Project: A Memorial to GLBTIQ Suicides, which works to create awareness of the high suicide risk queer youth face.

The reception will feature live music, belly dancing, readings, and more.

The Other Side Arts
1644 Platte St.
Denver, CO

Reception begins at 8pm, lasts until ??

I'm unclear whether there's a fixed charge at the door, or a request for donations. Will clarify as I find out. :)

TOSA Mission Statement:

Mission Statement

The Other Side Arts (TOSA) is a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging personal expression, building community, creating dialogue, and increasing tolerance through art. TOSA provides arts instruction and exhibition opportunities to historically underserved populations, youth, artists, and the general public. TOSA creates an exploratory environment that emphasizes inclusion and inherent worth.

Founded in 2002, The Other Side Arts began by securing a run-down, trash-filled anchor and bolts factory in downtown Denver. This challenging space has since been converted into an arts center filled with educational spaces, two galleries, more than 15 artist studios, a community center, a metal shop, a darkroom, and screen printing studio.

Since its inception, The Other Side Arts has served the Denver community through free children’s workshops, art exhibitions, the Alliance monthly publication, festivals, art auctions, outreach, interactive art events where the general public creates the art that fills the gallery itself, studio spaces, tours and art instruction to school and youth groups, exhibition space for school groups and other nonprofits, and a free community gallery that provides exhibition space to emerging artists.

The Other Side Arts has accomplished all of its goals through the hard work and dedication of majority volunteer staff and the continued support of community members.
