oh my hair....

it's so long. I think it'd take days to back-comb. My husband would be mad......but i always wanted a big nappy head of dreadlocks. I should probably stay on his good side for a little while because he did JUST buy me a wicked awesome adjustable dress form (in my phat size and beyond!)

dammit. He has this idea in his head that everyone with dreads is dirty, and i can't convince him otherwise.

i don't know what to do. Should i just do it? or shave my head out of spite? LOL!!

  • I had a friend who told me the best way to start them is starting with your hair short/shorter and then twisting every day. I have wanted dreads for years but the notion of starting my hair all over and waiting for them to grow makes me uncertain. And as we know, it is just a misconception that the hair/people with dreads are dirty. I would definitely do some reading about starting them and care though if you are serious.
  • I have heard of dread perms...

though... you can do what I do... put your hair up in a "bun" every day and dont comb it... I have ringlet dreads after about 3 or 4 days... AHAHAHAAHAH

    I would do braids first..

Lots of itty bitty braids... =) that would be cute as can be...
    • THAT IS WHAT I DO!! yep, a big ol messy bun on the top of my head, don't comb it for a week usually!! LOL!! i figured i'd just let it go completely after separating it into sections...

yes, braids...my husband said that'd be okay with him.

but who the hell would want to braid all of this mess?!! i guess i could get it done somewhere. anyone know about how much that is to get done?
      • call arround...

there has to be a shop somewhere that will do it for you... =)
I dont know how much it is... It takes me forever to get 14 braids into my own pig tails to put into buns... heh...
        • i guess i'll have to. somewhere in town probably does braids.
          • As a clean dreadie :) I must say this is one reason I went for it. I hate stereotypes and live to break them down. I have had them for 3+ years and have lived and worked successfully in both deep east and south TX with out issue. I feel that if you exude confidence, others will pick that to focus on instead of your hair. I field questions all the time from parents and students ( I teach at a public high school) but they are never rude, just inquisitive.

If you do decide to go forward, check out the dread tribes, they are a wealth of info. I can answer a lot of questions to...just drop me a line!
