No, idea, but I've been buzzing around the house doing all sorts of odd things. Yesterday I made cheese on a whim. Indian Paneer. It took about 15 minutes of me actually working and the rest was it sitting and draining.

Almost a week ago I painted my TV. The whole thing except the very back where it gets really hot and all the plugs are. It's a light and breezy field of tulips now. LoL

I'm making paper mache hot air balloons for the boys rooms.

I tried a new recipe and we love it and it has fed us for two days and about $2.50. Go rice and beans. LoL

And I'm working on a new bra off and on. It's going to be a mix between a choli and a corset and I have my fingers crossed I have enough know-how to pull it off.

And did you guys get to see my egg carton flowers that I posted in DIY Bellydance?

feel the sadness in purchased commercial goods? Like you can FEEL the suffering and unhappiness that went into it from some poor little starving child in a third world country that should be outside playing and not worrying about where he'll get his next meal from. Maybe I'm just crazy, but it really upsets me. Guess that's why I'm on such a quest to DIY for life :) I wear handmade undies, how 'bout you?! LOL!!

am i weird? stupid for thinking like this? my husband and family seem to think so.

to dread or not to dread....THAT is the question....

oh my hair....

it's so long. I think it'd take days to back-comb. My husband would be mad......but i always wanted a big nappy head of dreadlocks. I should probably stay on his good side for a little while because he did JUST buy me a wicked awesome adjustable dress form (in my phat size and beyond!)

dammit. He has this idea in his head that everyone with dreads is dirty, and i can't convince him otherwise.

i don't know what to do. Should i just do it? or shave my head out of spite? LOL!!

of vegetable soap....
made four batches this weekend - each a 4.5 lb 'loaf'
two batches of citrus spice, one batch of rosemary - peppermint, and one batch of tropical woods -
now to make at least another two batches... one peppermint, and one jojoba (always an unscented soap for anyone that might have overly sensitive skin)

everything went good until the mixer splashed me with raw soap...that was kinda frightening. It ate a hole in my pants even though i poured vinegar on it as soon as it happened!! Lye is scary shit, really scary.

well it's setting up in the mold right now, we'll see how it goes tomorrow when i go to cut it.

...Butter Crafting?

Somehow Cyran talking about making soap made me want to make butter, so Tuesday, I did. It's really simple, and it's good exercise for your arms.

It seems to make about a third of the liquid you use.

Decide how much butter you want and get a container that SEALS VERY WELL, fill it half way with heavy cream (haven't tried with light yet)
Add salt and sugar to taste, if you want.
Shake the hell out of it.
When it starts thickening up and it doesn't seem like it's moving around much anymore, swap it to a container twice the size you're currently using. (if you don't it will start to leak out on you, I promise)
Shake it some more, it will seem like it suddenly becomes liquid again and when you peek, it will have started looking like runny butter.
Keep shaking, you need to get the whey out of it.
Eventually, you'll have shaken most of the whey out, drain it out (I don't know what to do with it so I poured it in the sink. Any uses for it?)
Use a spatula to sqeeze any excess whey out and swap it to a sealable container. You can also, if you have a suitable pan, pour it in a pan and chill it. After it's hardened you can cut it into sticks, or cutesy shapes if you have a formal dinner coming up. Although, we don't seem the kinds of ladies to go for seven forks and knives. LoL

Also, I think that if you whip it after it becomes butter, and you've got the whey out of it, you can make that fluffy whipped butter they have in restaurants. I don't have a mixer to try it though.

How do I make a patchwork skirt?

I want to make a patchwork skirt that will be super comfy and last! I have a serger. Should I just serge all the patches together to make one big piece of fabric and then cut the skirt out from that? Or, should I do layer by layer and gather each to the one above it? I need something to destract me from the complicated pattern I'm making a dress from now. It's making me pull out my hair... and it's so borring. Also, I think I will feel much better at home hanging out in a beautiful skirt I made rather than sweatpants ala droopy butt.

It just occured to me as I was looking at an auction for a very adorable, but IMO ridiculously high priced, stuffed dragonfly on ebay. For one, I'm cheap, for two, I'm addicted to getting my kids toys, SOoooooooooo, why can't I make some? I want to be able to make lovely clothes, practicing by making the boys toys will be good for me. Do any of you know what the crinklies in the stuffed toys are? And where do I get the squeakies? I know I read years ago about a woman who was making squeakie toys for her dogs and they got them at a craft store I think, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks guys, I wuvy you! LoL

i found a good calculator to help with making recipes here http://candleandsoap.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=candleandsoap&cdn=homegarden&tm=11&f=00&su=p284.8.150.ip_&tt=3&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.soapcalc.com/calc/SoapCalcWP.asp

I also made a soap mold cozy that is made to fit my soap mold and keep it warm with out big ass blankets and cardbord. I dunno if i was the first to do this or anything, but i was impressed with my idea to do that. :)

anywho, getting close to making some now :)

i think this is an interesting hobby, i just don't know much more about it than what i saw on DIY network the other day. Is it worth getting into? Is it better for your skin?

help me out, I'm totally ignorant to this one!

no, i'm not smoking it....

i love hemp jewelry, and have been making it for years but i just recently was turned onto filmo polymer clay canes that have designs the whole way through, so all you have to do is slice down the roll, punch a hole through it, bake and Viola! easy hippie clay beads ;) so fun and non-time consuming. ya gotta love the instant gratification, and the kids can help! ;)

back to playing with me hemp ;) weeeeeeee!
