Wed, August 9, 2006 - 9:53 AMok how about....what is the meaning of life? hehe, just kidding. I think it should stay open! I have spoons now and wondered what is the best way to hold them while playing? I have tried a couple of ways, one works better than the other, but it still seems awkward..

Re: >>crickets<<
Fri, August 11, 2006 - 2:16 PMNah...don't close er down yet. Let it ride. So I will open up a topic to go along wi the last. I have bones. Now I can't say I put any "real" time into them cuz I'm usually playin my drums...but, if I was to take them up seriously can someone (Vash) throw me some rudaments to practice. I figure if I take them up seriously then I have one more contribution to make to the session. Also, I figure I can play wit em while driving. (Just as bad as a cell phone I know. But I don't think there is any current judicial interest in playing bones while driving.) As it is I beat my steering wheel with a tipper I keep in the car at all times. (Helps to narrow down the field of attack when playing bodhran. Really a good excercise. A drink bottle works well too).
So there ya go. Away wit ye... -

Re: >>crickets<<
Sun, August 20, 2006 - 11:10 PMit's ALOT easier to get the idea of grips and technique across visually than in words, so I'll try this week to get some basic pics up of 2 ways to hold the spoons and/or bones and right up some basic technique things this week. -

Re: >>crickets<<
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 5:52 PMI know...I wish we all had instant transporters so we could get together with people we want to easier. Then again, how about video taping it and putting it on YouTube? Same with bodhran? -

Re: >>crickets<<
Tue, August 22, 2006 - 5:57 PMactually, I have thought of doing that myself for basic Kerry techniques. But I wouldn't want to underhand the few tutors out there. (course there is no substitute for one on one instruction. Lord I'm tired. Ooops did I say that outloud? Nite nite. -

Re: >>crickets<<
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 5:12 AMI moderate several different specialty tribes at tribe.net and I have noticed that traffic in almost all of them has
really been off this summer.
I wonder what's going on. Have you noticed that anyone else?
The Audio Plugin Junkies Anonymous tribe that I moderate used to be off the hook and now the traffic is a dribble.
I say keep the tribe active (can't hurt) and then occasionaly if anyone has anything pertinent to add it can start up again.
The subject of bones and spoons is, of course, not going to inspire voluminous prose just do to it's simple nature, anyway.
Thanks for having the tribe. -

Re: >>crickets<<
Fri, October 6, 2006 - 10:22 PMOK, so I FINALLY got around to getting ahold of a digital camera long enough to shoot a few quick videos. Among them are:
A quick video of me playing bones and demonstrating the basics of how I do it: www.youtube.com/watch
An equally quick video playing spoons and demonstrating the "Hammer & Anvil" grip I use most often when playing: www.youtube.com/watch
There's also one just playing spoons ( www.youtube.com/watch ), and playing the bodhran ( www.youtube.com/watch )
Let me know if you find anythign helpfl or interesting and let me know if there's anything else I can try to film for you guys. Anything to spread the knowledge. -

Re: >>crickets<<
Sat, October 7, 2006 - 11:46 PMThanks for the encouragement. I am starting (only starting) the early phases of an instructional book and DVD demonstarating the playign techniques that I employ most often. I think that there are enough "beginners' materials out there that I don't necassarily need to rehash that same stuff.
I want to do something a little more stylized and I get a lot of interest in my playing techniques at shows and workshops. Nothing will be out anytime soon as I want to produce a really high quality product, but these videos will popo up from time to time as a sort of research for me in what people might like to see.
Glad you liked the videos, anything else you'd like to see?

Re: >>crickets<<
Thu, November 30, 2006 - 10:55 AMI say leave it open :)
I've been a total Tribe slacker this year, I'm trying to get better.
Really, closing this Tribe down just means that there's not a better forum for us to go with our bones/spoons needs. Leaving it open, even if it's inactive, gives us a base of operations, as it were
Also, I shall watch your YouTube vids and practice!
Come see us sometime, mang. Missed you
