oh Stompers....

how you bleed my wallet dry.

after a week or so of searching for some good, flat, everyday boots, I had decided on some Fluevogs. I have the BFC problem (big, fat calf), so I can really only wear men's boots or those which lace up the front. I took advantage of everyone being home for Super Bowl to sneak into the Haight. Unfortunately, All of the styles I was eying were out of stock or didn't fit! GRRRR. And, since all of my everyday shoes are turning to dust, I really did need to get new boots.

So, I headed over to Stompers. I wanted something which could be both classic and hard, Victorian/Steampunk and Industrial. The guys there were totally awesome, taught me a faster way to use the speed lacing hooks, and showed me a gorgeous pair of Wesco Jobmaster 18" with nickel hardware. Unfortunately, the 18" is a bit too high on me, so they smash under my knee when I sit, so I kept shopping around, looking for something else which would work.

There were lots of gorgeous boots I tried on, and they would show me styles not displayed on the wall, but I kept coming back to those 18" Sooo... I ended up getting them, but I might need to take them to a cobbler to cut them down by an inch. Thankfully, there's a great shoe repair place a block from my house.

http://www.stompersboots.com/gtwy_laceup-111.php (scroll all the way down to the bottom)

I'll be wearing these for the next 10 years, I suspect!

fluevog sizing

i've heard that the sizing for fluevogs runs a bit small... would you agree with that?

i ask because i'm looking to buy my very first pair of fluevogs — the classic, knee-high angels — but i'm hesitant. they're discontinued, so i've been scouring ebay... which means i have no way of trying them on before dishing out $100++. i wear something between a u.s. size 7.5 and 8, depending on the shoe, so it makes it that much more frustrating...

any help would be much appreciated!

White's Boots: custom boots

A little while ago I decided to give myself a birthday gift and they finally arrived. Now I have been spoiled by custom boots. They make these boots custom to the shape of your foot, and measurements all along your feet and calves. Never again will I have ankle issues. Well worth the investment, as they will also rebuild the boots you bought if you break them. They are twice as heavy as the boots I used to wear, yet my steps are incredibly light. Yay!

Anybody ever owned a pair? I'm considering one, but not sure if the sizes run big/small (I would be getting the ladies lace-up combat boot with the heel, if that helps).
I normally wear womens' sizes 9, 9.5, or 10, depending on the manufacturer.
Also, how well do they break in?
Thanks.

So I'm craving for another pair of boots.

Last September, I saw these Slayer boots at Stompers.
http://people.tribe.net/nekoseven/photos/cac8b562-bcb9-4692-830e-f74d277140a7
Unfortunately, I've looked at Stompers site and the boot is no longer there.
Oh yeah, back in September, I had bought Tuk Combat Trooper boots instead of the Slayer boots. Oh well.

Any other place in the city I can look for boots that look similar?
It's getting close to my 40th birthday and I want to treat myself with some new boots.

burgundy gripfasts!

I got a pair of just-above-the-ankle burgundy gripfasts back in... 2003? Late 2002? Something like that, and I've always eyed the knee-high versions. All of a sudden I don't see them on the Stompers website anymore... and search results are frustrating. Are they around anymore? I'd be scared shitless if they aren't.

Looks like one site is selling them:
http://www.instepdrmartens.com/browser/S005__67/S005__68/product/R005__HRdaKG8eII659c8957c52a9e/items.html

But that's a bit more expensive than I remember them to be. Anybody seen them recently?

http://www.endless.com

I wonder how they got this domain name, or maybe they've been sitting on it forever. Free overnight shipping, or so they say $5 paid to you for overnight shipping (that makes me chuckle), one year returning time, multiple views on all shoes, flash navigating. Hover above the image and you get a close up view of that section. The flash navigating bothers me, and the filters don't work so well (their definition of "knee-high" apparently includes ankle length boots, and there's not much lace in some of the boots showing when "lace-up" is selected), but the site is in beta stage so I'm sure they'll adjust this as time goes on.

But most importantly, their selection is different, you will find shoes that Zappos don't have (and I'm sure vice versa), and when comparing shoes that they both have in stock, Endless turns out to be -cheaper-(!!). Depends on the shoe, of course, I found some to be $5 cheaper, and some to be $50 cheaper. Now will Zappos do price matching in order to keep its customers? We will see.

I need to get a pair of Docs resoled. Is it possible? It must be! Can I take them to any ordinary shoe repair shop or do I need to take them someplace special? Probably can't get the old English soles replaced with new English soles, eh?

One of my beloved Oakley's has a broken zipper! Boo!! This is after less than a year (about 9 months) of wear, although I did kinda wear it on a daily basis and put it through some rough dancing times, but I've never had this problem on any of my boots (everything else fell apart tho), so waah!!

Will be taking it to a shoe repair shop tomorrow as Oakley definitely won't fix it.

Hiking boots?

I'm in search for the perfect hiking boot: tall(ish), comfy, lightweight, good traction, able to withstand some serious wear & tear. My Fluevogs are too delicate; the Wescos are a bit heavy for grueling hikes through rough terrain. Something in between would be perfect.

Maybe Docs?... I've heard mixed reviews on their quality.
Danner boots look interesting, though I'd prefer a few extra inches on the uppers...

Perhaps people already know this, I just stumbled across it. Nice collection of boots for all ages and genders, and there's even nice categories set for narrow/wide calves, which is something I rarely see in websites. Very nice database featuring over 4000 boots for women, 2000+ for men, and hundreds for youths and even infants.

Have fun shopping!

Howdy guys! I am having one helluva time finding myself some bitchin boots.
finding them isint a problem, but having them in my size is. (13/w -14)
I am currenty wondering if you, my fine friends, have any input/
suggestions about websites perhaps, that have cool boots as well as big sizes.
you *could* tell me about a store but since I live in seattle that may or may not help.

thanks for your time

boots for the corporate female

With my current job escalating a bit more than I expected, I am now looking at interacting with the "high corporate" far more often than I thought I ever would. And it looks like I will be working MacWorld again this year, and I must wear "professional attire"...

So I have jackets and pants, got a new dress shirt, but I've always searched for proper shoes. Unfortunately due to some horrible shoes back 5 years ago, I can't wear simple pumps with the solid backs because it will scrape the back of my ankles raw, and strappy shoes don't necessarily pass for the uber corporate.

Luckily my friend at law school pointed these out to me:
http://www.naturalizer.com/shop_online/item_detl.asp?CID=boots&PID=valentin&variant_id=865N35&Size=%25%25%25%2D%25

They look very much the gender-crossing style that I like, sometime this week I might be able to run over to one of their stores after work and see how they are. Not bad pricing, either. Will update as soon as I do!

Wtf has New Rock come up with?

http://www.newrockstore.com/zona1/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=422
http://www.newrockstore.com/zona1/catalog/images/474_IT_NE_ANT_AC_NEPT_40_NE.jpg

Is that seriously a 3-foot platform? And I thought solid platforms went out of fashion even in the goth-y scene.

Looking at that makes me think of 5 things:

1. somebody just went "hah lets see what these fuckers will buy next"
2. the springs are the only thing that makes the shoes interesting, but not really
3. it would look better if it was knee high, but who am I kidding no one is really going to pay attention to that
4. $488 for a big chunk of rubber foam? wtf?
5. can I get a free pair just to do one photoshoot with them and never have to wear them again? On that note, what's the return policy?

This is when I am thankful for my boy in Vegas because that is where their only retail store is. And I already have plans to be there for New Years. Hmm....

Somehow I have a feeling that if I actually saw someone wear it in person I would laugh quite heartily. I do remember being at a goth club in LA where I saw a guy wearing something like 10-inch platforms and he looked *quite* awkward. Later I heard people talking about how one of the platforms on his shoes broke off at one point. Made me chuckle indeed.

hey everyone.

i'm having a boot crisis. i simply must have a pair of those lace up boots, with many eyelets on each side, lacking the tongue - fluevog makes a pair, and calls it "corset lacing." alck, they make them only in black, and i'm searching for a livelier hue. what's a girl to do?

please advise. who makes these? i see them all over the place on people's feet.
trends?

The fashion fall season has now finally hit the stores, which means every designer has come out with a boot or two. Amongst the usual styles that pop up year after year, I've found some rather interesting ones.

*  *  *

Stuart Weitzman - 5050
http://www.stuartweitzman.com/store/item.asp?search_term=&department_id=71&filter_pg=1&filter_width=&filter_size=&filter_color=&ITEM_ID=796&VARIANT_ID=336
Half leather, half micro-stretch, this is definitely something I would like to see in person and try on. Cut to be just over the knee, I think this will suit those with smaller-than-average calves.

Nina - Fabiola
http://www.ninashoes.com/viewall-(viewall)-Black%20Vachetta-(3311-8H4JYV).html
I'm not a big fan of tapered heels, but the side metal studs on leather tabs is what makes this interesting. And it is available in a great burgundy leather.

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Print Python Boot
http://www.shopbop.com/shop/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441790941&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033966&fm=browse-category&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181057&bmUID=1155291496555
THIS was a very surprising find for me. Out of all the pop cuteness, here is something that is sexy even with the Marc Jacobs' pretty edge. Look beyond the flower petal lines, there's a python print (is it real?) and a half zipper, which seems either ingenius or ridiculously silly. Cannot be shipped to California? If you REALLY want it, then there's some way or another. Word of caution, it is also the most expensive one of this list.

J Crew - Dressage Refined Leather and Suede Boots
all leather: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod78559501&catId=cat106189
leather and suede: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod79401501&catId=cat106189
I actually saw the leather and suede version in black in a magazine advertisement, maybe my eyes were fooling me. Again this seems like it would suit someone with thin calves, or someone who is taller-than-average. I liked this one because although it is made for women, it has a very masculine feeling, and yet I can imagine it being wonderfully sexy on a feminine person. I love androgyny, what more can I say.

KORS - Aquarius Boot
http://www.shopbop.com/shop/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033966&navFolderId=2534374302023681
I thought KORS was a cologne name, or am I that ignorant of designers? Here is the classic lace-up in a lighter brown suede, rubber platform, and a nice looking heel arch. A pair of boots that isn't black? Not in my collection yet.

Marc by Marc Jacobs - Velvet Lace-Up Booty
http://www.shopbop.com/shop/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441790815&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033966&fm=browse-category&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181057&bmUID=1155291613805
We are back to the Marc Jacobs that we are familiar with, but in black velvet and patent leather? As a pretty shoe? Is Marc Jacobs trying to be "oh-so-goth"? Please say it isn't so...

*  *  *

A note to the men in this tribe: I know that for a while I've been covering womens' boots, but that really comes more from the fact that I'm female than anything else. If anyone wants to cover mens' boots, please do so! I will do my best to expand my research. Much apologies!

Electra 2029

I forgot if I mentioned it here or not, but back in late June for my birthday I bought myself a pair of Electra 2029 boots, from Pleaser USA.

http://pleaserusa.com/showcase/ProductDetail.asp?div=1_PLEASER&dpt=B3_KNEE&ctg=&STYLE_CD=ELECTRA%2D2029&PROD_CD=ELE2029%2FB%2FPU

Yay for cheap online stores. Total came out to be about $50, it provided all the sexiness and shiny-ness I could hope for, and has a very sexy arch indeed.

The arch initially was my biggest worry. I am not used to dancing in high arched shoes, or even wearing them for a great length of time (the last time I wore high arch -stiletto might I add- was about two years ago when I had to wear them for a theatre performance), and we all know how our feet can forget about arches very easily if we don't wear them on a regular basis. The first night I tried them out I danced with them for maybe an hour or so, got used to it better than I expected (I was able to do small hops and skips), but there was the dreaded ball-of-feet pain. I bought Scholl's inserts for them and gave them a second try, this time giving them a good two hours. Much better, but I still need to get used to the balance issue of feeling like I'm falling forward onto my face. I finally gave them the third shot last night and voila~! Minimal pain (I've definitely endured worse on my flat platforms), balance is nearly completely adjusted, and the shoe itself is quite lightweight. All this after almost three hours on them. Yay!

I love the overall look, simple yet is quite eye-catching (I bought the pvc version because I just can't resist the shiny shiny). The buckles on them will most likely last longer than the eyelets of my other boots, and the fit along the calf is quite secure and comfortable.

$50 well spent~

review - Pennangalan Dreams Gloria Boot

I *finally* received my Gloria Boots in the mail, and boy, was it worth the wait!

I ordered these in early April and they had to make them for me, as none were in stock. I'd had some concerns about the calf circumference, and they were willing to custom-make the boots to my specifications. I opted not to, as it would have added an extra $120 or so to the price. Not bad for custom work, but still. I ordered a size larger as recommended on the website.

I contacted Pennangalan Dreams in early June to find out the status. They were responsive and apologetic, but they were still not completed.

Finally, about a week and a half ago, I received an email from them apologizing for the delay and offering me either 10 pounds off my next order or upgrading the shipping to expedited shipping from the UK. I opted for the shipping upgrade. I finally received them on Monday.

First, aside from the calf circumference (a problem I knew I'd have anyway. I have 18" calfs), they fit perfectly. I've been wearing them with an extra pair of shoes in my bag, in case I need to stop breaking them in, but so far, they are perfectly comfy right out of the box, even around the ankle. No blisters. I expect that for walking a lot, I will want to add a gel pad at the ball of the foot, but this is not uncommon for me (I'm a wimp). So far the arch support seems fine (also an issue for me, as I have facitis). The leather is great quality. I've been getting complements on these all day.

In summary, I am impressed by the communication from the company, the price (about 80 pounds for these), quality and fit. They are slow, but if you're willing to wait a bit, I highly recommend this company.

Wandering around online I came across some links for western and Victorian style boots. Just spent some time drooling over the knee-highs, and now I'm sharing it with you all.

Sure, I'm not getting married anytime soon but that's no excuse to grab a pair of any of these. Victorian boots are the first boots I ever fell in love with as a child, and I have yet to own one. The torture, the torture.

Oakley's: the report

I have now worn those Oakley boots everyday for the past couple of weeks, and now I have finally danced in them tonight. Such a great pair of boots, in functionality alone. The biggest benefit is the fact that I can now rush to classes without being hindered by painful feet (which causes me to walk slower), and it's light enough so that I can wear it day after day without feeling weighed down. The first couple of days I wore them there was a bit of pressure on the inner ankle bone (that thing that pops out, what's the name of it?), but by the third day they had adjusted and formed perfectly.

Ahh, I love these boots, and I love the boy who got them for me.

For my birthday this Thursday I have grabbed up three new pairs of boots, I am very happy indeed.

With the money given from various relatives:

Demonia Slush 230, in black pvc
http://www.pleaserusa.com/showcase/ProductDetail.asp?div=2_DEMONIA&dpt=1_WOMEN&ctg=&STYLE_CD=SLUSH%2D230&PROD_CD=SLU230%2FB

Pleaser Electra 2029, in black pvc
http://www.pleaserusa.com/showcase/ProductDetail.asp?div=1_PLEASER&dpt=B3_KNEE&ctg=&STYLE_CD=ELECTRA%2D2029&PROD_CD=ELE2029%2FB%2FPU

And from my loving SO:

Oakley Tall Assault Boot, in black leather
http://oakley.com/o/o1703d

I believe we have discussed at least one of these boots in this tribe.
This brings my boot collection to 8 pairs, but oh it will never be enough.

The boots are all amazingly sexy and the Oakley ones are surprisingly comfortable, a perfect glove-like fit with no need to break in. Ahh, I will cuddle them in my sleep today.

Looking for Non-Slutty Thigh High Boots made here in the USA

I've been jonesing for thigh high boots - but not slutty Hollywood Blvd streetwalker type boots, quality boots that look vanilla (that is they look like regular boots) that just happen to keep going above the knee. I like the idea that only I know if they are "sexy boots" rather than just boot boots.

I've found one boot-maker based in Paris that does exactly what I want (go here to drool over some great custom made books http://www.jean-gaborit.com/en/) except a) they need to be imported from France and b) they run about half a months rent and take 4 weeks to make and ship.

Isn't there anyone in America that makes non-slutty fashion forward thigh high boots?

I've been more of a lurker than a poster on this tribe so I appreciate any feedback...

I'm glad I found this tribe (and it's members)

I too love boots.
I fact, I'm the Footwear Buyer for a department store in my town.

I get to see the coolest and latest stuff from all the Brand-names.
We have about 10,000 pair of boots in stock
(all on the shelf displayed, we don't hide them in the "back")
brands include Danner, Whites, LaCrosse, Nick's, Carhartt (Redwing), Chippewa plus about a half a dozen more.
...and also Western Boots.

But I'm not here to brag. I want to share the new stuff I see and get feedback from you guys.
I'll try to also share any "insider info" on any topic you are interested in.

I'm new to this tribe, so thought I'd contribute by saying that of all the boot companies I've ever used, I recommend pennangalan dreams the most...I'm vegetarian and they were able to make the type of boot I wanted(a commando one with buckles) in vegi leather, and they rock! They're really light too, which helps when you're dancing a lot....umm, thats about all I have to say, oh, the website is www.gothboots.co.uk

I found a lovely pair which is a knee high version of my everyday granny boots: http://www.pennangalan.co.uk/boots/FW213.php

So the other day I was at a hospital and one of the ER nurses had on some really hot knee high boots. I being a boot whore had to stop and ask about them and was told they were made by Oakley(?) and she got them at Zappos.com... Well today we saw Lacuna Coil perform at Jimmy Kimmel and guess what the lovely Cristina was wearing?? None other than the hot Oakley boots!!! Damn I'm in love.... it must be a sign that I NEED them right??

My loathing towards flat-toed and narrow-toed boots

i'm not sure precisely why, but everyone (especially in the fashion world) seems to love flat, narrow, pointy, or square toes on their boots... toes that pinch your feet in unnatural ways, and look (to me) quite ugly in the process. i've only ever found myself attracted to fairly rounded toes. It's especially bad when a pointy toe seems to accentuate an unnaturally elongated shoe, and the difference for me can also be very subtle. A flattened toe can be okay when it's at the end of a beautiful arch, and doesn't extend like some sort of minstrel shoe:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/snaz75_1897_138668652
but change that arch a bit, extend the toe a bit, and it loses a large amount of its appeal for me:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/snaz75_1897_379450071
i'm also of the type who finds humongous platforms very fetishistic and sexy, so i may just be an oddball about shoes.

Does anyone else have this complaint, or other very specific dislikes about boot shape?

ok, so my hot New Rock thing didn't pan out (and I wanted them mostly for clubwear, anyway). So, I want to spend the money on some cool knee-high black leather gothy boots for everyday wear, with quicklace hooks.

These are easy to find, but either they are too small for my calf or too poor of quality and don't support my arch.

Anyone have any suggestions?

i bought these fantastic platform boots online and unfortunately they are too big for me. they're a men's size 5, which is supposed to be comparable to a women's 7, but they are more like a women's 7.5. they are brand new, unworn, and in perfect condition. they have 5 buckles and a 3.5" platform heel (with a low rise so they will be very comfortable). i will ship them in their original box. i paid $70 for them, asking $60 plus $15 shipping within the US (based on actual shipping costs, i took them to a shipping place to find out what it would cost). please e-mail pkitten at sonic.net if you're interested.

I wear my boots every single day. I dont realy have seperate boots for going clubbing, though maybe I should. I have noticed that a pair of boots only lasts me about 8 months to a year, especialy when I am doing alot of dancing. Is there anything you can put on the bottoms of your shoes, like a hard wax that keeps your shoes from wearing away?

Premier of "Kinky Boots" this WED @ Metreon

Oh wow, look at this email I got from Madame S.

The New movie from Miramax, “Kinky Boots” is having it’s Premier Opening in San Francisco this Wed. April 5th at the Metreon Complex in the South of Market area of the city.

Mr. S Leather and Madame-S have been asked to put on a fashion show at the Metreon for the opening night premier. This should be a lot of fun as most of the staff and friends of the stores will be getting together to put this together and see the movie. From everything I’ve heard and seen, this is a funny feel good movie.

If you’re a ‘BOOT’ person and want to come by and wear your hottest and tallest boots just to check out the crowd, by all means DO. Bet they haven’t see a pair of Thigh High Wesco’s there before.

Wed. April 5th … Fashion show starts about 6:30pm…Premier at 7:30pm at the AMC Loews Metreon 15 Complex, at 101 Mission and 4th St. in San Francisco.

KINKY BOOTS

Mr. S Leather & Madame S at the Premier of the Miramax movie "Kinky Boots"

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808716117/trailer

From the makers of Calendar Girls comes an uplifting British comedy about two outcast dreamers who finally figure out how to stand up for themselves . . . in thigh-high leather stilettos. Inspired by a surprising true story, KINKY BOOTS stars Joel Edgerton (Star Wars: Episode III) as Charlie Price, the young Englishman who inherits his father’s failing shoe factory and, in a rousing comedic turn, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Dirty Pretty Things) as “Lola,” the feisty female impersonator who turns Charlie’s world, and the entire luckless factory, inside out and on its way to the catwalks of Milan. With a mix of brassy humor and heartwarming poignancy, KINKY BOOTS explores what happens when people who have spent their entire lives trying to fit in suddenly decide to truly stand out.

KINKY BOOTS is the feature film directorial debut of Emmy-nominated Julian Jarrold (Great Expectations) from a script by Tim Firth (Calendar Girls) and Geoff Deane. The producers are Nicholas Barton and Susan Mackie (Calendar Girls) and Peter Ettedgui; and the co-producer is Mairi Bett (The Libertine).

---

If I can make I will see you there!

All of you love boots, some of you must love motorcycles, particularly those speedy little things that like to go in circles and win trophies and take picture with big breasted girls under umbrellas.

I need your help. I'm looking for forums that deal with motocross, moto gp, supermoto, and the like. International forums a plus. I got those sites like motocross.com, transworldmotocross, and a couple of others. What are your favorite forums for motorcycles and motocross? Any links will be appreciated.

More than Combat boots

Is it ok to post threads about more than the 20 eye combat boots here?

what about White's, Red Wing, Danner, Wolverine?
or should we have a new tribe..."Work Boots"

And then there's Western Boots.

Should this be the All-Inclusive Boot Tribe? I'll start a couple of more specific tribes, but can delete them if we feel that this tribe is open for discussion of "All Things Boots"

As an introduction

Hey Troops-

My name is Stuart (Stu, Hey You, Shit Head...I'll respond to a lot of names) and I thought I'd just introduce myself having just joined the tribe.

I've been into boots since I was a kid and my infatuation has lasted through to my adulthood. There are probably over 20 pairs in my current collection...20 wearable pairs, that is. I tend to lean toward engineer boots as my favorite, but if the shaft is at least 8 or 9 inches, chances are I'll give it more than just the time of day. Generally, though, the taller, the better. Engineer, cowboy, lineman, army...not sure why but I love 'em. I'm not so much a "fashion" boot person, I do prefer my boots to be functional. My current favorites are my Wesco 32" engineers - next is a tie between my Wesco 18" harness boots and my Corcoran jump boots with the toe cap.

My current wish list includes some tall shafted brown suede harness boots and some Wesco Jobmasters - at least 16".

Not a lot of folks in my part of the country that get into boots as much as me, so, in desperation, I reach out to others like me on the internet. Good God. I sound like such a friggin' drama queen. Oh well.

Cheers folks!
coming soon: an all-boot related website!!

So I have parked a domain name on what I hope to be a successful project. Basically it's going to be a mega-database of info, resources, etc etc.

Unfortunately bootmania.com was already taken, which is a real shame. There's no site up there, but they want to claim it as their own until 2009, so fuck that. I'M going to make a BETTER site because of killer content. This is where you guys come in.

I am going to need all of your (yes you!) input, as I want this to be all-inclusive. I am considering all possibilities.

So far from my brainstorming I have come up with following areas and topics that could be covered in the site:

Boots by genre (region, historical period, etc)
history of
latest news in trends
making of
forums/support
event listings
sell/buy (maybe?)
interviews
image gallery (I'm real iffy on this, as there will be pictures scattered all over the site anyway)
oddities
links (shopping, various info)
trivia (?)
list of designers (could be a subgroup of something else)
basic help guide (gearing more towards the support forum)
various articles (contributions)

What would YOU like to see in a site that is devoted to boots?

The worlds most baddass boots

Howdy:

I'm a former boot biz guy - now a street musician/poet.

I've got 30 pair or so left of the worlds most baddass boots. I've posted a pic in the tribes pic section. These bad-boys are steel toe, and steel shank - no punji sticks are coming up through these fuckers.

- they have a instep plate of composite rubber and plastic - they resist 5000 lbs of pressure per square inch. The soles are silicone, rather than rubber, so they last twice as long, and are stiched, so they are replaceable. They are also oil resistant and non-conductive, so if you happen to want to subject these beauties to actual hard labor..

These are 8 inch, so they give great ankle support. They are also extra wide, but the fit is to lace the foot tight into the heel so they fit even the narrowest feet. And the insole is super-cush, like stepping into a dream.

I've got men's sizes 10-11

Where in the bay area can I find a good pair of Mens black cargo pants? I have a very muscular build, so th tight pants emo-look is definitly out for me. Pants that are a little bit baggy are just loose fitting on me, and that works better with my body type. I also like zippers on the front and sides, but not like those hot topic pants which are kind of rediculous and overdone.

It seems like most of the gothic-Industrial style clothing stores only have the realy tight fitting pants that dont look good on me. Can anybody help point me in the right direction?

What is it? BOOTS! I'm glad I found this site - others that understand my pain! I have boots that I wear to work, standard Red Wing Black firefighter ones. I wear these newer leather firefighter boots when actually in my turnout gear. They're lighter, more maneuverable in, and I don't fatigue as fast as trying to lug around in the old rubber & steel plated ones. I have my father's old 3/4 firefighting boots. Those are probably 35 years old, and are perfect for washing the family cars! It's entertaining watching the 12 year old trying to walk around in 'em too!

My personal favorites are my old wildland firefighting boots. I want to say they were made by LaCrosse? They have about a one inch thick tread, 11" tall, and scuffed all to hell from being worn all the time. Those boots just look mean! I still have my original combat boots from the Gulf War, and another pair of deck boots that have never been worn.

The wife wants me to get rid of some. Is that possible? That's like asking an addict to give up what keeps them alive! I hope she never gets to the point where I have to 'make a decision' between her or the boots...I think I'd really miss her.

Looks like http://www.lorians.com/ has been down for a few days, hopefully not permanently. For those who haven't seen the site, they featured Victorian and Edwardian boot replicas. One of those sites I bookmarked just in case I accidentally came across a shitload of money at once.

I'm still trying to decide on which boots to wear for the Grimm Ball coming up in a couple of weeks. It'll either be my cheap lace up heels or my new shiny shiny pvc ones. Tough choice, considering the rest of the outfit.

Everyone here should be aware of the upcoming Brothers Grimm Costume Ball for the Presidents' Day weekend (that's right, three-day weekend folks). I'm going to be a gypsy fortune teller with my own booth and everything, so be sure to stop by and let me read your doom (*cough*) or at least say hi!

So what's with the lack of good looking boots for men? Sure, I've got your typical 20 docs, 10 eye docs, paratrooper boots, biker boots, pirate boots, etc, but why are cool lookin' industrial boots so hard to find? I get my wife all kinds of cool lookin' boots to wear, most of which make dancing nearly impossible with a few drinks in her, but damn, they look good.

Am I just not looking hard enough?

I've never heard anyone discuss this problem, but the backs of my ankles are very sensitive. Whenever I got new boots I would have to stick those little ankle paddings just so the back of the boot would stop scraping against my ankle (it would slash it around pretty badly). Maybe a year would go by and finally the paddings could be taken off. Anyone else come across this?

I myself own 6 pairs of boots, all distinctly different, and really, that is a pathetic collection. I want to see everyone here brag so the rest of us can fume out our jealousy. Point and laugh at me. SIX pairs?! HAH!

One day I'll have my own boot museum....

the appeal of those boots you wear

I find it rather silly that boot fetishists are lumped up right next to foot fetishists, considering boots are the footwear that covers feet more than any other. I can understand stocking lovers, sock enthusiasts, and those who are obsessed with dainty little heels, but boots? Boots are essentially layers of whatever mankind has found to be thick and sturdy wrapped around feet and calves in order to give them the most protection possible. If anything, the foot is quite lost there.

So what indeed is the appeal of boots? Has anyone actually put it into words before? I could discuss this topic for hours. Lets see if I can sum it up on a readable level.

When I think of boots, I always picture combat boots that lace up right below the knee. My favorites ever since I first laid eyes on Doc Martens in a store, when I was 12 years old. Before then I actually had a pair of mock victorian style boots (for kids, so as real as it got for me at that age) that were mid-calf, and I loved them. But the Docs were something else. I didn't pay any attention to the 8-eye ones, I went straight for the 20-eye. And to this day I can't help but stare at them whenever I see them on a shiny display.

What is so special about them? Well lets consider what they actually do. Being made of thick and sturdy leather, they are the corsets of footwear, but the strain is not on the feet. All of the binding stress is on the calves, where the muscles work the most in order to keep you bipeds as mobile bipeds. Work a long shift waiting tables or just stand in your room for 8 hours (remember, no breaks!) in a row, and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. That is where the wrappings go, to basically make sure that your foot doesn't fall off your ankles. So as you go about your activities, you are very aware that the boots are there, which is what Webster likes to call a feeling of security. Those boots aren't going anywhere. In terms of military use, that is a very good thing. As humans, we like to feel secure. Anybody who has ever been in a remotely romantic relationship can agree to that. And feeling secure about where your foot is going to land next is a comforting thought indeed.

Another consequence of heavy duty leather coupled with steel inserts is something all us boot wearers are familiar with: weight. Boots are heavy. Since they're strapped to your feet, your feet becomes heavy. All of a sudden your feet are more capable of marching through mud, gravel, any rough and/or uneven surface. They have power. In order to get from point A to point B, you must walk. As you walk, you are constantly reminded that you have more power than if you were barefoot. Your feet have essentially upgraded to level 4. Need I say more?

So as mental issues go (oh we have plenty), there it is. Boots will make you feel more secure and powerful. As they should, since it is their damn purpose.

Now feeling alone isn't going to make you sexy. We are all vain, no denial here, and we gotta look good. In our human minds, the longer the legs are the more appealing they are. Fashion models are forced to wear ridiculous heels so that their legs alone become taller than I will ever be. Ok, so visual basics 101: what makes things look taller? Answer: vertical lines. Very simple fashion functionality. Whenever you want a part of your body to look wider, wear horizontal lines. Whenever you want a part to look taller, longer, and leaner, wear vertical lines. What does that lovely 20-eye boot have right at the front where everyone can see? That long line of laces. If you want that to stand out more, wear contrasting color laces. Those laces are marvelous things. They begin at the base of the foot and climbs all the way up to your knee. What you see is an unbroken straight line going straight up, creating a lean, flowing leg.

Be cautious there, because lean does not necessarily mean skinny. There are times when skinny body parts are suitable. This is not one of those times. Combat boots give you the feeling of power. But if you have toothpick calves, then the contrast between the strength of the boots and the strength of the legs increases, hence it does not suit you. Of course, wearing horizontal striped stockings (preferably the thickest socks you can find) will fix things. But I'm not trying to write a fashion advice column. That will be done some other time. The point is something to do with power.

I was always a tomboy, so these combat boots originally meant for men were perfect. And for those who love androgyny as much as I do, that's where these boots have even more appeal.

So there you go, that is mainly why I love combat boots. Again, I could go on for hours. But I'll spare you all that.

Why do you find the type of boots you like so sexy?
