Eggs

topic posted Mon, March 24, 2008 - 2:33 PM by  Diana
Easter got me thinking about the color of eggs. As a child I thought all eggs were white. Then came easter, and the practice of dying eggs garishly. Later my mother began to purchase brown eggs. It was all very distressing. Now I that I buy my own eggs, they're brown, as this is what my store sells. I've become accustomed to the color, I suppose.

As the saying goes, it doesn't matter what colour your eggs are so long as you don't carry them all...

    from the frying pan...

    into the breach, dear friend.

But you wouldn't do that would you?

      Ahem,

I believe the chicken came first. And don't count your chickens until they are hatched.

I had a frightful experience, i bought some eggs and discovered that they were blue. No it wasn't an Easter promotion, they came that way, perhaps if it was a silly holiday themed occurance, I could have perhaps shrugged it off as yet another inconvenience us D&U folks must face.

Also, please think carefully about how you prepare eggs. The only kind I eat are plain boiled eggs.I have also , on request, prepared deviled eggs, though they certainly did not have any jazzy embellishments such as paprika.

I had not noticed before, that "deviled eggs" contains the word vile. That is disturbing.

          That *is* very strange.

          Oh. But fond memories.
Picnics in the country, with the inevitable tray of lukewarm deviled eggs pulled from the warm musty trunk of the car, and the Saran Wrap stuck to the yellows so they come off on it when you pull it up, and my mother trying to scrape remnants of the yellows off the Saran Wrap with a fork to put them back. What a talent. Try it sometime, scraping mayonaised egg yolks off Saran Wrap, one-handed, with a fork.

I almost never eat anything but boiled eggs these days, either. And I only eat the whites. The yellows are very bad for you, you know.
But I love a nice firm boiled egg white. It's like rubber, but without the taste. And there are so few things in this world that are actually tasteless. Water and rice cakes are the only other things I can think of.
