Today this half marathon taught me the importance of the 48 hour diet prior to racing....
I had not eaten a properly on Friday. Travelled for work and ate on the run, did not make a protein shake as usual, and, after coming home later that evening from a memorial service (for the husband of our running club's founder, he died suddenly last week) I got lazy and didn't make dinner. Saturday I had a good pasta dinner thjough, was well hydrated all week...but I think not having good nutrition on Friday, plus waiting too long to start my gel intakes during the race (I took the first between mile 4 and 5 and the second at mile 10), I just didn't have the energy to pick up the pace for the last 2 miles which were downhill and flat.
Finished at a 9:13 pace, 2:00:32.
ARGHH!
