Race report

Wow, I didn't know Vic and I were so close! My wheels fell off at about mile 18, and it looks like Vic had some troubles, too.

I wrote a long, rambling race report and put it here, in case anyone is interested:

www.geometer.org/Races/Boston2007.txt

The short report is that I was doing well until my calves started seriously cramping at mile 18 and my pace dropped from the low 8's to the middle 10's.

I had a great time in spite of it all!

    Hey All,
Just back from Boston. What an awesome experience!. Tom, I'm sorry I didn't get to connect with you that was an unbeleivable crowd for me - biggest race I have ever done. The conditions before the race were horrible but the actual race was not all that bad - the rain had stopped and but it was windy though inside that kind of crowd it really wasn't all that bad. I was trying hard to re- qualify at least in my mind. I was in trouble right from the word go my stomach was cramping, because of the rain I had worn a waterproof trail shoe which was heavy. My socks still got wet. I changed them around 9:45 and the ones i put on were damp as well. I pushed to keep my target pace. It just wasn't to be my day. was over heating at 5 miles peeled off my long sleeve. Stomach still bad. Needed a washroom at 11 miles. My legs were like lead the whole race and could not get into a comfortable stride. I was walking before the 1/2. I walked every hill - felt just terrible. Knew I wasn't going to do well so I said lets have fun. High fived lots of kids and adults. I was wearing a Canadian ball cap and saluted about 7 flag bearers throughout the crowds. High fived about 100 girls at Wellesley College, hugged and kissed about 4 of them -especially the one with the Canadian flag ! Disappointed in my tim, glad I could finish. I'm with you Tom I pumped to go back. I too am contemplating a race in Ontario in May to re-qualify. I'm alos thinking of the NYC Marathon I earned a guaranteed entry. If you run a Half in sub 1:40 you can be guaranteed so I may register. I must decide by May 1.
Set your plans and I hope to meet more of you there next year - Good luck
