What do you think about...

Walmart dropping their Lay-away program ? Their story is that they are proud to be getting rid of a service that mainly is utilized by lower income consumers.

I think it is more like, they don't want to have to hire extra help nor do they wish to focus so many of their workers efforts to that area of customer service at Christmas time.

Another cheap cut to the customer.

Lay-away programs add little to the bottom line of a business, other than the goodwill it creates for the customers.
Wal-Mart is all about efficiencies in business logistics and moving vast volumes of goods through their pipeline. That's how they can afford to beat everyone else in price-points. Why generate negative cash flow while lay-away mechandise languishes in warehouses that have overhead (utilities, employees, insurance, etc.)?
The number one retailer in the world is willing to let the also-rans handle the whole lay-away thing. It's smart business and they'll continue to do it until they're not number one anymore, likely.
Grow up, kids. Business is about the bottom line and Wal-Mart has figured out how to do it better than anyone has. If you've got an idea about how to surpass them and put them out of business, the folks at Target, K-Mart, Sears, etc. would love to hear about it. Then you could boycott them too!

Walmarts bread and butter is abusing low income people. That would be stupid on their part.

ah dick...always playing the devil's advocate - walmart style....

yes, they are seemingly successful on the outside but there is a horrible seedy side, a downright inhumane side to the company that the public obviously doesn't see. with that knowledge, i just can't knowingly support the company. it goes against my ethical beliefs.

recently, i moved from houston to nederland, colorado - a town of about 2000 or so....there are absolutely NO chain restaurants, big name grocery stores, fast food or large retailers. businesses are not corporate run but rather by individuals, moms & pops - people like me and you, just trying to make an honest living against the grain.

it is AWESOME! i love supporting the little guys - it makes me happy. i believe they appreciate my $$ more than huge conglomerates like walmart. to me, that is true success - when you have the support of the community around you..... YAY! for the little guys!
