Hmm....are German smarter than the average American who has been bought and sold by Walmart's low prices at the expense of US jobs and industry?

Wal-Mart Germany mulls closing a few of its 85 stores
06.18.2006, 01:56 PM

FRANKFURT (AFX) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc is now in the process of considering whether it would close a few of its 85 stores in Germany, head of Wal-Mart Germany David Wild said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

'We are currently examining all unprofitable locations,' he said.

He said if the company arrives at the conclusion that the stores would not be profitable in the long-term, 'then we will close them'.

He said there are some stores which are performing excellently and there are others which are 'losing a lot of money'.

Last Wednesday, Wal-Mart closed stores in Sigmaringen and Duesseldorf, the report said.

        Germans didn't bomb pearl harbor!
Although I did know a German lady she would only buy "Quality Products" from Europe although she was living here. I've read how even Asian cars are having a difficult time competing in the EU, people simply want to buy their own products and I applaud them for that. Wish we had more quality products made here.

Sorry, I often forget that not everyone has seen the movie, "Animal House" and would not necessarily get the Germans/Pearl Harbor joke. As far as quality prodcuts being made here...they're out there, they're just not in the historic niches. Until the rest of the world's standard of living starts to be roughly equivalent to ours, it will continue to make more sense to have things made elsewhere. Right now, a "living wage" in America would be comparative luxury in most of the underdeveloped world for more than one person. Until then, we all have to assess what we do to make a living and make adjustments where necessary. No amount of wishing or government regulation is going to revive some of the historic manufacturing strongholds that are dying on the vine or are already dead.
