Always a dictator, ALWAYS! They move into a new town, first stripping it from quality small businesses and sending manufacturing jobs overseas. On top of that they refuse to properly train their workers so that they don't have to pay a living wage.

Re: Corporate citizenship
Thu, December 27, 2007 - 8:43 PMWhat is a 'living wage" and what does training have to do with it? If the "quality small businesses" were so good, why didn't they make their prices competitive, their service better and their location convenient to begin with? What manufacturing jobs did Walmart "send overseas"? I thought they were a retailer.
Are Walmart's big-box competitors like Target treating their folks any better? If Walmart is so terrible, why do people continue to work and shop there? Granted, in some areas there are not a whole lot of choices, but if you remove them from the equation there aren't more choices, but fewer.
Seems to me that if your intention is to make a career of working at Walmart, or virtually any other retailer, you don't have sufficient skills, vision or career goals. That elusive "living wage" will always be out of reach until you improve yourself through education and/or training. If 'the Man" is knocking you down, keep getting up! -

Re: Corporate citizenship
Thu, August 21, 2008 - 1:25 AMSome people are uneducated about the real walmart and how to read labels about "made in ......'. I have a friend who had quit walmart because of its health benefits that wouldn't pay for preventative medical care such as a prostrate exam. I used to have my film developing done at Walmart. When 3 of their best photo lab employees left wich WAS due to working conditions their film developing went sour in quality. Fortunately 2 of those opened a film developing/ photography studio and the quality of their work has improved temendously. Granted, I have to pay a few dollars more at developing time, but the compliments that I recieved since doing this are worth it. If you can get a copy I suggest watching Wal Mart, the high cost of low prices. I have personally seen some of these claims to be true.
