New to group....

I was very excited to run into this tribe because this is something I've been struggling with considerably in the past few months. I'm more into the Taoist forms of essence retention but I think the goals are similar. I recently have been getting very involved in my martial arts practice. So much so that I decided I wanted to become a monk. So I went raw and I tried to stop all sexual activity and I shaved my head, etc. But I would find that even if I wasn't masturbating I was still having nocturnal emissions and the past week has just been insane. Anyways, I think I decided it's best for me to not be so hyper-disciplined and hard on my self because it just put me in a terribly negative and depressed mind space. Another thing that I believe also contributed to the depression is the fact that I felt completely alone in my goals. So I'm hoping this group will help:)...I reside in NYC. I study a lot of Taoist longevity practices and I'd be really interested in finding a partner to study with here in the city. Although it seems most of you guys are on the west coast. Oh well, I've rambled enough. Justin

    Dear Windwalker . . .

What you say about not being too hard on yourself sounds wise to me . . . it's so easy to get dogmatic with preconceptions of concepts in general. Or telling ourselves what we "should" do or be.

As far as "cultivating energy" in the Taoist sense (which seems to be part of what you're describing) is concerned, I've learn over 12 years of practicing this that really to listen deeply, profoundly, to what your body is telling you within yourself is the key. With my own practice I've worked through traditional concepts to find the core of what works in experiential practice.

In fact, for most men & perhaps women as well, initially seeking to practice "cultivating CHI" or absorbing into the body the erotic energy we generate is initially more confusing when attempted with a partner. This is one of the reasons I have developed what I call Mindful Masturbation, which is based on the science of biology, physiology, neurology & behavior, as much as traditions such as TCM & Tantra.

Plus me own experiences teaches me about metabolic energy levels, attention-span, ability to concentrate & so on. I'm always in the ongoing exploration of these processes as I document at www.mm4m.org & I find it's not rigorously learning NOT to ejaculate . . . but making ejaculation a choice. Training yourself to do effective draws to absorb the energy into your body is also a major key to this process.

The virtues of nonejaculatory cultivation of male erotic energy as a solo meditative practice, or with a partner or even in groups of men is really a pioneering practice, the spiritual frontier of merging the sacred with the erotic in daily life. Practice optimally, this can render you energetic yet serene all through your daily life. You will not be hyper, distractible, or easily irritated. On the contrary. It's balancing.

Take heart & accept full responsibility for your energy levels, your pleasure, your reality, & you're on your way!

    Peace & Namaste,
    Bruce P. Grether
