i was thinking about something kind of like a symbolic funeral...for people who want to start over.. people say their thoughts of the "dead" person, deliver a eulogy and then they get a rebirthing ceremony. i think that kaalin was thinking about something like this.

Re: life or death
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 9:36 AMI definitely like the idea of this, but feel more drawn to the idea of a chrysalis than of death and funerary ceremonies. The idea of a physical/emotional/spiritual change brought on by the application of fire or simple growth. -

Re: life or death
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 12:10 PMPerhaps both ideas could be melded into one. A funeral of sorts with a person wrapped in a netting material symbolizing a chrysalis? -

Re: life or death
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 4:18 PMIt occurred to me while talking with Trish why the idea of the chrysalis seems more beautiful:
"it is more of a rebirth than is the funeral idea.
The thought that you are perfect as a caterpillar, minding your own business, and you wrap yourself up in another perfect form only to come out as a perfect butterfly. I like the idea that one is not less perfect than the other, just different. Death seems more of a used-up, worn-out aspect, than moving from one state of perfection to another."
This, though, is my opinion, so take it for what it's worth... -

Re: life or death
Fri, March 23, 2007 - 7:07 PMBut the beauty of this is--none of us know what death brings. It could bring a very perfect form. But the unknown is always perceived negatively and is therefore scary. Ask anyone who works in hospice and they will all tell you they believe in some form of afterlife. -

Re: life or death
Sat, March 24, 2007 - 1:03 AMI am not saying that the "Afterlife" is any less perfect than the current life. What I mean to say is that with a caterpillar/butterfly, their is no death, no "used-up" aspect. The caterpillar does not die, it simply sheds changes form, akin to a calf growing horns and becoming a cow or bull. There is no perceived negativity in this. This is a growth progression. The caterpillar remains alive the entire time that it is experiencing a metamorphosis. It, likely, is as close to fully aware of what is occurring as we can comprehend. This change is not another plane of existence, rather, it is the same plane, but with a new outlook. And, maybe, a new outfit...
