do you think our "system" - i.e. growth economy and consumerism will crash?

i thought i would put this question to my smart friends here.

I'm pretty firmly believing that our way of life is going to crash and definately within my lifetime. I think by looking at the bigger picture of where our world is at now, that the crash is already starting.

What do you guys think about that. about what you would do? about preparations? etc?

that sometimes, instead of blogging, I should journal. that airing out some of my personal thoughts before they are ready could lead me to a little too much honesty too fast. and that perhaps I wasn't prepared for. i feel like a very private person. and would prefer not to give access of my innermost thoughts indiscriminately to the internet masses. musings on a treadmill..

i ran 5 k today, and i only burned 349 calories. i feel jipped ( how in the H-E -double hockey sticks do you spell that?!), like maybe somehow you could have a calorie slot machine, or you could get a token as you enter the gym, and you play the treadmill lottery how long you are going to be on and how fast you are forced to go... it would be interesting to say the least. ... maybe this is the next japanese game show. 'cause all their game shows seem a little *off* to me...like watching benny hill while altered.... or absolutely fabulous sober...I do have a special place in my heart for the bizarre and unexpected.k

barter fair

i just talked to a friend in seattle who went to a barter fair. i would like to do that here, before the holidays. any ideas where to start? i would love it to be a burner-initiated thing, but not opposed to talking to my local freecycle...it seems too big for one person. ooohhh maybe even a gifting fair! even better where you bring all of your old stuff just to be liberated from it and give it away... i can hear the opposition"if i am gonna do that why don't i just go to the thrift store and drop it off?" i'll have to think about this one. any ideas? k

this book that i am reading by a harvard educated doctor talks about ego and object libido... that we are all searching a return to the infant state where all of our needs were met instantly, almost as if by magic.(we're gonna call this the ego libido- where you seek hopes and dreams from within, because at that point, the child doesn't KNOW that he/she isn't making all this happen- we see this exemplified in divorces that involve young children they think that it is all their fault) and then we get a little older, our needs are not gratified quite so quickly, and we start to realize that we depend on others to satisfy our needs( we're gonna call this object libido where one gets gratification from a person/object that is not the self)..... ok. so we are all walking around trying to return to that infantile state of perfection, and we are alternating ego and object libido on a pretty consistent basis. we are trying to get back to that place. and it is hard.we search for a manifestation of that schema, but we gradually learn that that is futile. some of us never reach this point. if you do, then you iunderstand that the sublimation of these results in wisdom and compassion. and the closest possibility of getting back to that schema is when we "lose" ourselves. creation involves the letting go or losing of the self, and of course any state in which timelessness and selflessness occurs..................why this?, you ask and why here? well, yesterday, for the first time in months, i experienced a brief moment of contentment. which is highly unusual for me. and i had to get to the bottom of it. so there it is.k

thinking of a staged photo... two women standing facing each other but closer on the side facing the camera so you see more of their backs. one is thin and has blonde hair the other is curvy and has long dark hair. you see the contrast in forms. and it is black and white. maybe sepia undertones.

food exchange

once a month people all get together.( it's all about geting people together:)) each person cooks a big batch o whatever enought for at least 10 people. each person brings a box of ziplocs and tupperware, enough for ten different things, and goes home with 10 different meals for the week or month. great for singles, or couples. you only have to cook and clean once.

once a week(or month) people get together at someone' s house, take off their shoes and get comfy with their favorite book. one hour of voluntary quiet time. you can just lean up against someone( back to back, or however you choose). my best friend and i used to read like that all the time. and i miss that.k

i am reading a book called thoughts without a thinker. and i had this idea of making a "thought" costume for burning man. it would be slips of random papers, and you could take a thought or leave a thought. the physical costume would be nebulous, by nature. i think that it would be really cool. any ideas?

i was thinking about something kind of like a symbolic funeral...for people who want to start over.. people say their thoughts of the "dead" person, deliver a eulogy and then they get a rebirthing ceremony. i think that kaalin was thinking about something like this.

saw a talk by this guy once... amazing energy - sweetness incarnate.
on his website he has a list of ideas - in his talk he explained that this is his ephemeral to do list... things that have crossed his mind that might be interesting.
He happily allows and indeed is honored when someone else does one of his ideas.

kind of counter to the way art ideas are generally hoarded and held with a sense of almost selfish ownership.
but, ya know... the things we tend to hoard are the things that most freely slip out of our lives...

angel or devil costumes?

i think that it would be cool to have an assortment of angel/devil costumes in one area so that people could take pictures in one, or the other, or both, then put them side by side. maybe a big white choir robe, a halo apparatus and wings and a cheapo thrift store demon mask or devil costume. i was also thinking of something like a painted board with a head cutout...what do you all think? the boards could probably be burned later.

YIKES! i need help lots of projects on my plate

ook so here is an inventory of the projects at hand: if you want to help,
i will be forever grateful.
1)reflections- need pictures reflected off of a surface of things/places/people that you have left behind
2) recipe for the afterlife- small symbols that represent the ingredients for a successful life
3) jeffz needs watches, or clocks, i think .email him for details
4) art gallery supplies and design needed ideas for fun project
5) art to display in one of the galleries needed
6) Wheatie template- so that the wheatie logo can be spraypainted on cloth aldric has clear images of wheatie
7)pearly gates or the gates of hell would be nice at interfuse
i am sure that there are more. maybe we can all get together when the weather breaks. k

if one were to make a recipe for a successful life, what would it contain and what ( very small) symbols would you use to represent these? example: ingredient-tears symbol tiny pieces of glass called dragon's tears pain-thumbtack other ideas with out symbols------> love, laughter, friends, soul, faith,

all of this will go into a spice rack with small jars containing these tiny symbols would be invited to fill their tiny bag with whatever they chose and take it with them to remember the recipe

creating a new music exchange

once a month we have a potluck and everyone makes( or buys)
copies of cds that they have been listening to. we all get new music and to see each other. and input. i love that. you could make copies of existing cds or go through and decide what to retire. i sometimes buy music at the clearance bin and get it home and it really isn't um, what i thought it would be. so instead of donating them or freecycling them, we could trade.

BM 2007 gifting: seeds

since the theme this year is the green man, i was thinking about wrapping seeds in paper or biodegradable packaging and using ecofriendly vegetable dyes or paint to color them and then writing "GROW" on the packaging so that the person who recieved gift could take it home and plant it and have a reminder of BM2007. maybe basil? or something hard to kill.
