Re: where to buy a rickshaw?
Fri, July 25, 2008 - 12:03 AMYou can make a rickshaw pretty easily.
One design to try is the Mexican pick-up. This makes a great cargo bike as well as a rickshaw.
I found some instructions on how to make one from an ordinary bicycle on the internet. After Burning Man, you can use this as a cargo bike to go grocery shopping with.

I used to ride a rickshaw for a living in Toronto, Ontario. The first rickshaw I rode was one that was made in Spokane, Washington by Tipke cabs. These are American pedicabs made out of Fiberglass with batteries, a radio, front and tail lights. I switched companies and drove an Indian rickshaw which are really, really beautiful although the passenger seat is quite small. The indian rickshaws come with a shade for the passengers, but not for the driver. These rickshaws are cheap to buy in India, since many Rickshaw companies there are just tossing them into the landfill and replacing them with motorized rickshaws. However, importing these into North America will cost you about $1,500 by boat. -

Re: where to buy a rickshaw?
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 10:18 AMI found an old used one on Craigslist that I could hook up to my mountain bike. I had to restore it. I repaint it and re-fur it every year that it goes to the playa. Last year was silver paint and lime green fur upholstery.
Some years I put a canopy on it, and others not. I find that the canopy can produce a lot of wind resistance when it starts blowing.
