If you are here as an interested observer, we urge you to learn about our Brighid to see if you feel the call to Her service as a Flamekeeper.
Ord Brighideach honors Brighid by keeping her flame in shifts as legend tells us Her Flame has been kept from ancient times. Brigid's Fire was a perpetual flame that burned in Kildare in pre-Christian times and was kept alight by Brigid and her nuns, up to the sixteenth century. It was relit in 1993 by Sister Mary Theresa Cullen of the Brigidine Sisters. Since then, Brigidine Sisters in Kildare keep the flame at Solas Bhríde. So too do each of our Flame keepers keep Her Flame in their own ways and in their own homes across the world.
Legend tells us that each day for 19 days, an individual Flamekeeper kept the flame and on the 20th day, She Herself was the Flamekeeper. Each cill of Flamekeepers thus is made up of 19 members plus Brighid Herself who each keep their flame in rotation every twenty days. To Celts the virtue of a flame is held in the candle wick and so by lighting one candle from another, each of our flames are lit from the rekindled flame in Kildare.
If you feel a calling to make a commitment to share in keeping Her flame alive in the world, contact Proins'eaf at ldyharp@redtent.net
There are no elaborate rules here, but we insist on basic courtesy. In other words, BE NICE. You need not be a Flame keeper to join this list. Anyone can join as long as they follow the rules of basic courtesy to others. No flame wars or bashing of anyone will be tolerated. We do not care what your politics are as long as you do not publish them here. Though it might be tempting, no selling of ANYTHING is allowed. Events can be posted but only in the listings section. Remember to use appropriate subject lines in your posts so those who are interested can follow a certain thread. The tribe is moderated by Franz/Airmid, a dedicated representative of Herself, and she will use her best judgment in the event of any conflict in the tribe. Thank You for using your best manners here
