Re: BUK fbi files
Fri, June 4, 2004 - 4:32 PMI work literally a block and a half away from 5124 De Longpre. Its a tiny apt building with about 6 units, all facing outward with a little porch and 2 steps in front of each. Exactly what I would have expected from him, and it doesn't look like its been remodeled since he lived there.
And to think I've walked by that place on my lunch break a dozen times and never realized it... I'm so jazzed :) -

Re: BUK fbi files
Fri, June 4, 2004 - 5:10 PMWhere are all the other addresses? What part of town?, I mean. It's always said Bukowksi favored the bars of Western, but I thought that was probably apocryphal, since Western is so known for sleazy bars, as was Bukowski. -

This is in a "great" (in the Bukowski-esque sense of the word) neighborhood... hookers all over the place, and a great little dive bar on the corner of Normandie and Fountain. I would bet money he used to drink there :) -

Sat, August 21, 2004 - 5:43 PMyears ago I used to live in a basement style apt. on DeLongpre....but a little further West. I wasn't a Buk fan at the time, didn't know how good I had it...lol

Re: BUK fbi files
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 2:19 AMSo...do you know the buildings used for the external scenes in "Barfly"? I used to own a book that showed which building was the Jane Cooney Baker/Faye Dunaway apartment complex, but have since lost it. And what about the exteriors of the bars shown in the film's opening montage? I have a still photo of the "Golden Horn" with a street sign which seems to indicate somewhere in the 300 block of Main Street...as to whether that's North or South, I don't know, but either way it would be in downtown LA if it still existed.... -

Re: BUK fbi files
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 4:20 PMYes it is still standing the apt. complex called the Lost Viking. Very close to MacArthur Park off Alavarado. Even has a green space next to it where the corn was planted for the scene. -

Re: BUK fbi files
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:43 AMYet one must wonder where he garnered the most drunk in publics...or rather the spots where the patrolmen would sigh..looking at Buk...half block from his house....and so drunk..yet still able to write about the hassles in the walk..or the texture of the sidewalk..
any thoughts?
think it jibes with the place/places he lived the most? or the apartments in which he gulped the most..
or perhaps..lining up with the solitary times in his life...
perhaps the matrix of all three?
obsessive? nah...unless you have to loook all that crap up...
