After Burn 07: Postmortem Report

topic posted Sun, October 14, 2007 - 10:34 PM by  Napalm
Hello Fellow Cascadians,

WOW!
What a delightful experience that was.
The event went beautifully, with relatively minor issues to deal with.
We're now, one event closer to "The Cascadia Burn".

Amanda deserves special mention, she filled in and took up the slack, shouldering more then her fair share of the burden.
Burn BC owes her HUGE!

---------------------
Overall I've been receiving wonderfully positive feedback. (Via... Email, Text Message, Phone, and in person)
Generally the common feedback (so far) is.

* The people were wonderfully diverse: (Age, Ethnicity, Communities, Styles)
* The Music, and performances were SUPER!
* People were getting a real kick out of the mix between Live Music, DJ's, and performance Art.
* The people looked Fun, Sexy AND respectful.
* There was no way to take it all in (reminding some of us of the Playa)

I personally was pleasantly surprised to see the After Space Full at 5am.
-----------------------

One noteworthy "hitch" was the super drunk dick-head (no offense to penis's) from my building.
Turns out, that he was upset when no one offered him free beer from the Bar.
When I told him there wasn't one...he lost it.

Long story short...
He crossed some serious lines that could get him evicted (without my intervention).
This week I will meet with the management to get some feedback.
I will report back to the list after.

A couple of details...

* This is a 24hr commercial building
* Everyone signs a waiver about noise (for the trains)
* People on the ground floor sign an additional waiver about noise from the basement.

I don't want to see him evicted, especially if he respects our space.
Apparently he's the talk of the building today, so that alone might shut his aggressive ass up.

On the positive, whether or not we can go all night in the future...
I really look forward to using the space to create experimental nights of Performances and Art, as well as playing around with deconstructing how we interact, by playing in the environment and facilitating "Creative Self Exploration".

------------------
As for the Financial report.

* We covered our expenses.
* We will have money left over for the community development fund
* We were able to offer small honorariums to all 50 contributing Artists

Of the Artists that have been contacted so far some have donated their honorariums back to the Community Development Fund.

We've changed around the share structure a little to more adequately reflect the input of members to this community project.

* All artists who've donated their honorarium are receiving an extra 100 shares.
* The Artists that paid for their tickets will receive and extra 50.

---
After we have settled out all the Artists, Shares and Expenses, I will post an accounting of the event to the Burn BC website.

----------

I am super proud of us, and grateful for the support and input of all the people who've been a super catalyst to Burn BC.
This was a glorious inaugural event that, has thrust us by leaps and bounds much closer to The Cascadia Burn.

With sincere Peace, Love, & Gratitude,

  • Hi Napalm,

Indeed it was an amazing night! I really want to duplicate that for the Sag Party on Nov 30. Please feel free to list it as a Burn BC event.

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it was too packed in there and became uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable in fact. I'd like to make sure we don't over fill the place for the Sag party. Other than that, it was perfect!

Congrats on building this up my friend, you are creating something very positive. I love how you made it very clear that everyone must respect eachother in all ways. That is paramount and one of the main reasons that I will fully support you and this company. You and your beautiful wife are precious souls and the world could use many more of you!

    • Thanks Stephanie

For the most part people liked the capacity.
However, we did see some bottle necking and are looking at ways to fix this for the "Cirque Du Sagittarius".

Things went very well and has us all very excited about the potential.
It was a beautiful event and the next one looks to be HOT!
