Dear Cascadians,
(Brainstorm meeting details at the end of this message)
Please put an X on your calender for March 7th.
...as Burn BC presents "The Spring Fling"
This one will be interesting.
While it's not "officially" spring, we're throwing a fling....
and...
Gamelan X is coming to Vancouver on a three city tour (Portland, Vancouver, Seattle), and we want to welcome them with a very special night.
If you're not sure who Gamelan X are, take a look at these links.
Gamelan X
* (Their site) www.gamelanx.com
* Monkey Chant (at BM): tinyurl.com/22obp3
The details of this event are still forming, and will be forming very quickly.
So if you're interested in participating, please let me know.
Things to consider:
* What would you like to add to the "Spring Fling"
* Can you billet some members of Gamelan X.
* Do you want to expose them to a good time in Vancouver the night before?
* Do you have Venue ideas?
There are various venues we can use.
* Are there venues we could consider?
I'd like to host a meeting of interested people this week.
Please come out and enjoy some good fun and brain storming.
Saturday 3pm at Zawa (Commercial Drive)
Please dress in your crazy best.
A little costume goes a long way.

Brainstormer Report
01/21Hi all,
Our Brainstormer was a fun one.
A few laughs, with fluidity that let the ideas Flow.
Ultimately our next step is looking at one or two venues before going into the "logistical planning phase".
To Summarize:
1. Gamelan X delayed
Gamelan X has a scheduling conflict, so they can't make it this way until the Summer.
2. Date changed to April 26th.
Because we now do not have a time constraint, we're moving the date back to April 26, with a few considerations.
* Earth Day is April 22
* There may be an an Art Show called "Earth 2" happening then that may want to tie in.
* More time to prepare.
* Recompression is April 3-5 so buffer time has been requested.
3. Venue Change
We decided to consider a Venue change for the next event to freshen up the creative exploration.
If you know of a venue (300+) that might be good, please let us know.
The top two choices are:
* Korean Hall: Potential to go all night, limited by capacity.
Aladin is looking for the contact info (if anyone knows).
If we use this space it will have to be a "private party" by (invitation with membership) to keep it kosher with the authorities.
* Japanese Hall: Potential to play with "zones" and displays, limited by: may be expensive and cleanup must happen the night of.
I will contact the Japanese Hall, and get more details.
4. Themes / Ideas
The Brainstorm session was very funny.
Some of it was thematic, some of it was "What kind of performances?"
One discussion I enjoyed laughing about, was.
"Why do people have to wait till midnight to explore "party favors"?
What's wrong with starting off the night at 7pm or 8pm?
I can't say much more, other then it turned out to be a very funny discussion.
The following is a list of themes / ideas mentioned.
The question was: What do you think of when you hear "Spring Fling"?
* May Pole
* Morris Dancers
* Beltain
* Pagan Rituals
* Green
* Forest Creatures
* Flowers
* Birth / Rebirth
* Jumping
* Pogo sticks
* Bar themed Drink
* One night Stand (Fling)
* Mattress Jumping
* Sex
* Bunnies
5. Requested Performance (some of this I just added, after post meeting feedback)
* Giant Puppets
* Shadow Puppets
* Puppet Show
* Carnival Band Jamming with SWARM
* DJ's (The list is long)
* Live PA
* Early night performance section
* Burlesque
* Performance Art
* Dance performance
6. Decore / Art
* Confucius (Bruce)
* The Mondo-Spider
* Parachutes
* Parachutes as Giant Flowers (creating a kind of giant garden)
* Forest / Earth
* Theme Camps
7. Ticket Prices
Cost / revenue needs to be balanced.
This means that ticket prices could be in the $20 - $25 range.
In order to include people who may not be able to afford that price:
Volunteering and Participation is Highly encouraged.
People who do so can slide the scale in their favor.
Conclusion
As soon as Aladin (or anyone) can track down the contact info for the Korean Hall, we will go for a group tour.
If the venue looks do-able, we'll move to the planning phase of "The Spring Fling".
There will be more to this event (I'm sure) that will evolve as we more forward and people step up with input.
Please feel free to offer feedback on this.
Cheers
Napalm Dragon
