Who wants to be moderator?

topic posted Thu, October 5, 2006 - 8:19 AM by
As I am stepping away from Burning Man and its various sub-communities, I'll probably be leaving this tribe. Still "clean", just not "burning"!

Anyone want to be moderator? You don't have to actually DO anything if you don't want to. Many mods don't. Or you can take an active role in deleting off-topic spam, etc etc.....

Thanks! Let me know. First one who wants it, gets it.

Before you disapear from this tribe, I just want to say thank you for starting this. I know things have been pretty quiet around here for quite a while, but I know that when this Tribe was a bit more active it was really helpful for me and reasuring about some things--I think it was for several others too.

I also wanted to mention that I loved the Sugar Cube. It was a very powerful work of art.

I get the impression Burning Man has left a bad taste in your mouth and I'm sorry to hear it. If you really are gone for good, I wish you the best in whatever else you find.

Best wishes with your new adventures,

    Erik

      Thanks, Erik.

Burning Man isn't my thing. I knew that LAST year (my 2nd year), and I was just there this year to work on the SugarCube. But, I did meet a lot of great folks, both from this tribe and others (and got stickers, yay!).... it's just... not something I need to do again. I have appreciated having the support of other non-drug folks, most definitely. I am just going to seek out a community that is less drug-soaked OVERALL, I think, so it's not such a constant issue.

      So....Erik...wanna be moderator?!?!

    *bump*

So, I come crawling back. Looks like I'm on (and Burning Clean) for Burning Man again this year. (Dammit, why can't I quit the habit?!)

This is what I posted in the Burning Woman tribe:

So, last year after my boyfriend and I spent 11 days straight out in BRC building/unbuilding our art project (The Sugar Cube- www.sugarcube2006.com)... we drove away tired, disillusioned, and swearing to each other we'd NEVER come back.

During the time we were there last year, besides being exhausted doing heavy construction 8+ hours a day with our all-volunteer crew (go crew!).... we saw our art used as a toilet, as a trash depository (we hauled out 10+ huge garbage bags of trash over the week), and many of the people who were so ENTITLED, just blew us away and turned us off the event.

However.... we've been talking about it, and feeling our friends be so excited again, and feeling that energy build.... and we've decided to give it one more try. This year, NO art project. We're going to be Greeters again (our best time on the playa 2 years ago was at Greeters!), we're going to really make an effort to "keep it grass-roots" and just wander around, connect with people, be spontaneous, and play.

Well, that and we're only going Wednesday-Saturday, ha.

Long story short- anyone else ever felt like this? Like you were totally disillusioned, but wanted to give it one more shot? If so...did it work? What made it better?

I guess I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one who, despite all protestations and agreements-with-self, just CAN'T FREAKING RESIST going to Burning Man.

    Gah.
I feel like a total loser... but on the other hand, now that we've made the final decision today, I'm already eyeing my costume box and my wigs and my fabric supplies and going "mwah-haha-ha-ha!"

    ....so, uh, see you there?

      Well, you'll see ME there.
I think I'll be camping with Deep Heaven.
and there's no way on God's green earth I can resist going to BM.

and I *never* drink or use any other drugs (except caffeine).

      Hugs!

Glad to hear you'll be coming back. I was saddened when you announced you were done with the whole burner thing quite some time ago.

Come find me and some great peeps at Boogie Universal (that goes for everyone on this tribe). We'll be on the Esplanade in the 3600 square foot pyramid near 9 o'clock. Thought it's not totally a clean & sober camp, there are several of us there that are all about having a good time without getting wasted.

I'm totally stoked for my 3rd completely sober burn this year (4th burn if you count that first one that was totally blacked out on drugs & booze).
