In the past month or so I've gotten three unsolicited letters from companies that offer to act as an agent for me to get my house reassessed to get me a temporary reduction in property taxes.
I never respond to junk mail offers, but I wonder if the idea of getting my house reassessed to the current (probably lower) value in order to save on property taxes makes any sense? Or is this whole idea bullshit?

Re: Offers to reduce property taxes--legit?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 7:28 PMI heard that you can call the county assessor's office yourself and ask them,
or fill out some form to get them to reassess your house to represent
current comp's in your area. As long as you're good with your financing,
it would seem like a sound idea. We're holding off until our restructure
or refinance issue has been resolved as we don't want our property to
look less valuable. But ultimately paying less taxes right now sounds
good.

Re: Offers to reduce property taxes--legit?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:06 AMThe few times i've read about it in the Union Tribune it seemed pretty easy to do it yourself. The will comp other house in your neighborhood to see the value. Go to zillow and comp your own place first
www.zillow.com/
Then get an idea of how much less your taxes should be and if it's worth it.
And here is the paperwork to reassess your house...
