Re: Insurance question?
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 7:39 AMWelcome.
Do insurance companies offer appraisals on jewelry and the like? I want to start insuring my jewelery but my jeweler charges $86 the first item and so on. Can I cover this with my homeowners insurance?
Thanks! -

Re: Insurance question?
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 1:31 PMJezebel,
Your homeowner insurance probably carries an automatic $2500 of coverage unless otherwise noted. So, check on that.
To utilize this coverage in the event of a loss I recommend you take photos and keep them elswhere ( like at your parents home or your work place).
Remember, your homeowners insurance may have a deductible of $1000 before you can even use it! And they may demand receipts!
Appraisals done BY your insurance carrier: NO. Shop around. I know there are places that can do it much less expensive.
Jezebel, are there any receipts on your jewelry?
I would suggest (and I am not appointed to sell) State Farm insurance for "Personal Articles Insuranceā (for under $10,000 of coverage) with NO deductible to cover specific pieces "outside" of your homeowners insurance.
A personal articles policy is separate from the home with its own deductible (if you choose any at all).
I (Casswood Insurance) insure jewelry but honestly we are not very competitive under $10,000 in coverage. State Farm offers the best premiums so google your local Agent.
Always happy to help,

Re: Insurance question?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 3:48 PMTravelers Insurance does a Personal Articles Floater.
This policy can be purchased alone (meaning Travelers Insurance does not need to be your current primary carrier).
And State Farm offers the same thing (unless they recently changed their rules).
Both companies would need appraisals for each piece.
Your zip code is a huge factor on premium amounts (I have seen policies that can be less expensive just by living across the street!).
I would be happy to quote through Travelers for you. I would just need a guestimate of value and a zip code. You can private message me if you like.

Re: Insurance question?
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 9:31 AMWow awesome advice, thanks.
We should do something about Traveler's Insurance because we both travel for work and play. What about for zip code 98168? -

Re: Insurance question?
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 1:15 PMSorry, don't really understand your question.
Travelers Insurance is the name of a company
www.travelers.com/
And I am appointed to sell their products. Thru them I sell "Personal Floater Insurance" this is what covers jewelry for example.
To insure your "traveling" I insure per trip like for large groups. And individual per trip.
If you "travel" a lot for a living I highly suggest you get with your current auto insurer and ask about coverage's while traveling. Also, check with your current home insurer and ask about your "stuff" being covered while traveling. Most people have a $1000 deductible on their home and dont realize this would also be utilized for personal property (ie laptops) and usually travel with less than $1000 worth of stuff so your insurance would not come into play in the event of a loss.
Most important about TRAVELING is TRIP INTERRUPTION! Would you be covered if you got sick and could not go or someone was hospitalized???
