I just went to Michael's Craft Store and saw that they had packs of 15 glowsticks for $1!!!!! I bought 10 packs and then thought, y'know what, I want to go back and literally buy all of them for being so cheap! But then I thought about the fact that I don't know how long glowsticks stay good for, or is there is any time limit at all? Anyone know if glowsticks can be kept for 9 months??
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Wed, December 13, 2006 - 5:53 PMyou should be able to keep them as long as you don't open the packages or break the sticks by crushing them. I've had some i kept for 2 or 3 years and they worked fine. Just opened the foil, snap, light. hope this helps. -

Thu, December 21, 2006 - 10:27 PMHah, how funny. I work at Michael's. :P
I actually bought some around march-ish before i even had the job...and we gave them out for Halloween, they all worked fine. I have a ton of them left. They might even make their way to BM! Lucky glow sticks.

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Fri, December 22, 2006 - 8:24 AMMany glowsticks have a shelf life and even an expiration date on the package. I had some 2 years and about a year later past the due date, they glowed very faintly. if at all.. Maybe they are getting better quality over time as that was a few years ago.
I'd vote for a more enviromentally friendly brighter LED. Someone did try to make a art project out of used glow sticks last year. Did anyone see it?
My biggest rant of glowsticks is as they go dim it's really hard to see people in the dark until you run into them with your bike. Unless it's on top of your head, you can't see peoples glow sticks from the back etc.
But at 15 for a dollar. heck I'd buy all of them too! -

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Fri, December 22, 2006 - 7:01 PMThe life of a glowstick is a very long time in an environmental sense. Although the contents of them are non-toxic, I don't think they are recycleable. They may give you some hours of being seen - but they do fade and as they get dimmer you are hard to see.
If you drop a glowstick and it doesn't get picked up by someone else... it usually stays there until the grid by grid clean up after the event. Glowstick bones are the same color as the playa.
So... what are some other options?
EL Wire and a battery pack - will run as long as you have battery power. This wire can be sewn onto clothing... or you can use The Buttoneer... as seen on television. It's a little punch tool that pushes a plastic barb through the cloth. Instead of holding a button - it holds your EL wire. Search the web for EL Wire. I found my Buttoneer at a fabric store and I'm told that Walgreens sometimes has them.
Battery powered christmas lights - I found some at IKEA recently. They come in many colors and were only $1 each. Yep.. only a buck.
Friends have found them at Walgreens for a coulple of bucks. Michael's has them in the bridal decoration section - although more than a few bucks. Again - attach your lights with the buttoneer.
Then there is the issue of batteries - which you can buy rechargeables, but actually re-juicing them out on the playa mean an investment in additional hardware to do so. Buy your batteries in bulk and bring them home with you - they can be recycled!
I know this is getting long, but hang in there.... I'm almost done.
What do you attach the EL wire / Xmas lights to? How do you know what you are going to wear on any particular night?
Hat - Attach it to a hat you like to wear and will wear at night - like maybe a fedora? Stylish and lit up.
Vest - use an old vest (or make one out of mesh fabric) and attach the lights to it. Make sure it is a big vest - big enough to go over your stylin evening clothes. Make a pocket for the battery pack.
Belt - attach lights to one of those stylin' wide belts that are in fashion right now. If it has large openings, you may be able to just weave the lights in between the belt pieces. Add a small pouch to hold your battery pack.
Fur coat - that you are SURE you are gong to wear everynight, cuz' it's so stylin.. you don't care if it's warm...... raining... or whatever! Weave the EL wire into the fur in a pattern.. or put it along the edges... and once again.. use your handy-dandy buttoneer to attach the EL wire. Make sure your battery pocket ends up near a pocket!
Sorry for the long post... hope I'm not sounding preachy here.. but consider some other options other than glowsticks.

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 11:11 AMI have a AA and AAA battery charger that came with a 12V plug for use in the car. Your car battery can deal with two or three chargers running day and night if you turn the engine on for 15 to 20 minutes every other day or so. I know, fossil fuels not very green. If you really wanna be green, I've seen solar panels that are capable of recharging small batteries. They're fuck ass expensive though.
I should mention that I'm taking the most drastic and effective measures to green my burn this year. I'm staying home. -

True that!
Glow sticks are not a very "green" lighting source.
Please consider this when thinking of your lighting needs.

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Fri, October 5, 2007 - 11:00 PMAny time you buy glowsticks, gently shake the package first. If you hear broken glass sloshing around, some dumbtard busted it already and you're buying a dud.
Only go for ones you are sure haven't been popped already.
/oh, and I don't even like glowsticks - too MOOPish. Best to use battery-powered glow toys. Buy once, use forever, or at least until you break them accidentally while trancing out to your favorite DJ -

Re: Question about GLOWSTICKS!!!
Sun, November 18, 2007 - 4:00 AMthis is all good with the battery glow toys but i spin glowsticks like poi 1. there for i do not drop then and make trash cus they are on long strings and 2. i re-use them in art later and there for they are not trash but art! i find that the battery powered glowsticks that change colors break so much faster, it's harder to find the tiny bits of plastic in the dirt! and a good thing is put your glow sticks in the cooler if you only used them half and the sun is comming up again! or you could give them to some one in need for light if you go to bed early ( yah right... bed early at the burn what ever! ) pippi monster
