To keep my shade secure. I need 8. I don't want rebar (it bends, these don't) Home Despot used to have them, but I've been to every one around (Hollywood, Culver City, Slauson) and they don't seem to have them any more.
If anyone knows where I can get them around LA, please post or PM me.
Thanks,

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 7:39 PMI just saw some round steel stakes at the Home Despot I was at today. Not sure if they were the exact same dimensions, but
they were round, black and certainly more sturdy than rebar -

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 10:37 PMI think you are talking about 3/4" concrete stakes. You could look in the yellow pages for concrete supply and give them a call.

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Sun, August 19, 2007 - 9:08 PMI found them at Lowes, they are concrete stakes, 36" long and 3/4" round - $3.30 each. NO MORE REBAR!! WOOT!

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 3:12 PMThese are called construction stakes or foundation stakes. Call hardware stores that cater to the construction industry. Call HD or Lowes again, and ask for this. Sometimes, they have them in a different place, and the staff doesn't know... -

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Wed, September 5, 2007 - 4:19 PMOr sometimes they are sold out right before the burn ;-)
I tried these out for the first time this year on our monkey huts ... and yes, I am sold. Much easier to pull out of the ground too ... not sure if that means that if we got hit with 100+mph winds they'd come out too, but, that would probably be the least of my worries. -

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Tue, September 11, 2007 - 4:18 PMI love those stakes. Mine have small holes in them, which I imagine I could insert some thin rope thru to attach guy lines to or whatnot. And they are far easier to deal with than rebar, which seems to bend sometimes when you pound it in. -

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Tue, September 11, 2007 - 8:29 PMI used rebar and it worked very well. It did not bend nor pull out and they were easy to pull out when it was time to break camp I just wraped a rope around them. (Cinch the rope around the steak and pull by using your knees.....)
I used a tennis ball ontop of each with pool noodle to protect toe and foot injury from the stake shaft.

Re: 36" x 1" (approx) Round Steel Stakes...
Mon, September 17, 2007 - 12:36 PMAfter going to the playa several times a year since 95 and always using rebar, I used concrete stakes for the first time this year.
Throw out your rebar, these stakes are far better. They go in easy and come way easier than rebar. I also got away with using 24" long stakes and still had about 10" above ground. My 20 ft x 20 ft shade structure held up easily through all the storms.
They also have large square orange plastic covers for the ends for these stakes. They worked great. They are usually sold in the same place as the stakes and rebar.

Fri, October 5, 2007 - 10:46 PMRebar will grab a lot better than smooth sided stakes.
