Fri, July 8, 2005 - 2:34 AMOJ and water before bed, OJ and water after you wake up? Works for me and I am OLD? Does mean you usually have to get up in the middle of the night and pee.
And an antacid before bed does help too. For us people with old tired stomaches!

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Sat, July 9, 2005 - 3:18 PMYeah, don't drink so much :)
No, seriously. Alcohol dehydrates you like crazy, and the more you drink of it the less happy your body is going to be in the desert. You may be able to handle an entire keg by yourself in your everyday life but on the playa your body will freak out after 3 drinks.
Drink tons of water and gatorade-type stuff with whatever alcohol you're planning to drink, and try to avoid anything with guarana or caffeine in it or you're going to wake up with a very nasty headache. -

Vodka and Tang is properly referred to as an "Alan Hale" I believe, it was a favorite drink of that fine alchoholic actor!
Miso soup in the morning can really help when you're feeling it. -

Besides, of course, not drinking too much (as the main reason for hangovers is alcohol), add to Mallory's remedy, an Alka Seltzer before bed as well. It got me through three years in Germany! I would take an AS with an Evian before bed and one when I woke up and was good to go... Bit older now... I'm presuming it still works these days as somehow I forgot that remedy last year! (Coulda used it Friday morning!)
Also, the earlier advice--have a drink, have a water, have a drink, have a water... Works great as well! (shoulda thought of that Thursday night!)
Hugs!

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Tue, August 15, 2006 - 6:24 AMHere in Oz we have this fantastic stuff called Berocca: my US friends have told me to please bring TONS of it cos they don't have it in the US. It's basically an effervescent vitamin based drink from a tablet. Refreshing and full of vitamin B! That, plus bacon, is the best hangover cure I know of :)
And to help avoid the worst of a hangover, pretty simply, drink LOTS of water as you are slowing down drinking, and also, don't drink crap booze. Good quality spirits are where its at.

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 4:09 PMReally the best cure for a hangover is more water. Everything else is helpful but without enough hydration, the other things won't matter much. Last year, I found drinking most of my alcohol in the form of vodka and Gatorade kept me from getting a hangover. I suppose Tang would work too. This way, you're drinking a fair amount of water along with your alcohol. Caffeine is a diuretic (i.e. makes you urinate more) so be careful with taking lots of caffeine (e.g. coffee, Red Bull or Rock Star); you'll just have to drink more water to keep up.
Last and REALLY IMPORTANT, too much acetominophen is really bad for the liver, particularly when you're dehydrated and taking alcohol. Do not take more than 4 g total a day if you can help it (that's only 8 Extra-Strength Tylenol). Remember, not only Tylenol but Vicodin and Excedrin as well as several other pain meds contain acetominophen and it adds up fast so check the labels. -

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 4:36 PMStraight water is actually hard on your stomach if you have a hangover
Have orange juice (any juice) mixed with water 50/50
The extra sugar helps your body assimilate it faster -

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Wed, August 16, 2006 - 8:28 PMAnd in Germany, we take a fizzy tablet of magnesium before bed--it's said that your body depletes its magnesium stores to metabolize alcohol, so the idea is to replenish before you're desperate.
I don't know if there are fizzy tablets in the US; I used to just import them, but hten I used to travel to Germany 3-4 times a year on business. Now I'm wondering . . . .

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Mon, August 13, 2007 - 11:29 AMhoney on crackers is a good hangover food -- fructose helps the alcohol burn faster (and honey is like pure fructose... OJ is too acidic for me if I'm hungover).
But I aspire to Not Get Drunk out there -- too much else to do and see! -

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 7:42 PMjust some frickin water will work. This is my routine, 3Litres of water during the day, (actually about 2.5) shower just before the sun goes down, when dark, fill a 1L nalgene with vodka tonic, refill 3L camelbak. drink vodka tonic, sharing with friends. also bring a cup to drink what people give you.
suck down what you can of your water before bed, drink more when you wake up. (have pee bucket in tent, you'll need it)
finish off water as you lounge around in the morning, refill, repeat. -

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Fri, October 5, 2007 - 10:57 PMDrink as much water as you can hold without throwing it back up.
Take one percocet
Take a 1-hour nap.
Upon waking, drink a cup of coffee with a dash of coke. About half a decent line will do it.
Stay hydrated, while *carefully* resuming your alcohol intake until safely drunk again.

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Sun, November 11, 2007 - 11:03 PMBest hangover cure ever is Menudo. You'd have to freeze it to take it on the Playa. Besides that, I'm a big fan of Bacon and a Bloody Mary with an EmergenC chaser. But I don't get drunk enough to have a hangover. They don't call it getting 'stupid drunk' for nothing.

Re: Drinks & Hangovers?
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 7:58 AMMona Vie! You take a shot of this stuff, and it's completely amazing. All natural & it contains acai berries from Brazil. More info here: www.monavie.com. You can't order directly from the site, so if you're interested in buying a bottle, let me know. $40 each, but it will last you a long time because you only need a shot of it. It's saved me on many occasions. let me know if you're interested.
