We've always camped in tent, but my friend, who's coming for the first time, was wondering how comfortable(temperature wise) sleeping/camping in a truck bed with camper shell would be.. Any tips?

Re: Camper Shell CAmping
Sun, March 22, 2009 - 5:05 PMI'd suggest a parachute bungee-corded to the wheel wells. It will break some of the "ovenish" feel and may permit a bit later sleeping in the morning. -

Re: Camper Shell CAmping
Sat, March 28, 2009 - 12:54 PMYes, I'd find a way to cover the camper. It's may seem like a lot of work but a car port with walls over your truck (and tied down way fucking good) would be nice. You probably will try to sleep during the day so make your sleeping place it as comfortable as possible. -

Re: Camper Shell CAmping
Sun, April 5, 2009 - 7:00 PMI slept in the back of my truck last year. It was warm starting about 10 in the morning and ending about 5 or 6 in the afternoon. I slept at night quite well. During the day, I slept outside the truck on a couch we had in the communal meeting area if I had to. Things worked out well.

Re: Camper Shell CAmping
Sun, April 5, 2009 - 8:32 PMIf you want to be able to sleep during the day, create a mylar (emergency blanket) covering for it that you can put over it once you arrive. Otherwise you'll cook. Do NOT use a parachute for this... they trap air a bit and let most of the sun's rays through, so they're actually quite poor at keeping you cool.
