Q #1 - What is the best way to keep the plastic sheeting inside the pond from blowing upward when wind passes underneath? My thought is to put a few bricks inside along the wood.
Q #2 - Is it necessary to fasten to wood frame to the playa? I don't remember that being done in past camps that I've been in, but I wasn't really paying attention to the construction of the evap pond, either.
Thanks -

Re: Evap pond question
Mon, July 13, 2009 - 12:38 PMQ#1- I normally just use a staple gun and some two-by-fours. Just make sure that you don't staple too close to the edge because we have had them rip.
Q#2- Never have done that and it has never been a problem (probably till this year of course)

Mon, July 20, 2009 - 9:09 AMI have had this idea and have found one problem but was looking for the hard blue plastic ones (which I have searched to the ends of the earth and cannot find) An inflatable one might pop? right? -

Re: Evap pond question
Mon, July 20, 2009 - 10:17 AMKeep in mind that surface area is far more important that the volume it can hold. If your evap pool is a foot deep, it's not going to evaporate and you'll be stuck with a HUGE hassle. You will notice that even in the evap ponds that are huge, the water pools in certain areas on the plastic sheeting. You bring a push broom and every day, get your boots on and get in the evap pond and spread the water around to eliminate the pools. -

Re: Evap pond question
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 4:56 PMI tried the kiddie pool last year and wound up bringing home about 5 gallons of nasty water.
If you decide to do it anyway bring a few 5 gallon buckets with lids that seal tight.

Re: Evap pond question
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 4:42 PMHas Anyone ever lined their shade structure or tent with rain gutters to use as evap ponds? As the water evaporated it would also cool the area. Just curious. -
