Bring an FM radio with you to the playa.
I’ve been working in commercial, public and underground radio since 1979 and I am always amazed by the depth and quality of radio programming available on the playa.
Running a radio station is a shitload of work and the folks who bring you these stations are seasoned pros who have high standards and are dedicated to bringing you quality radio.
As of now, there will be 17 FM radio stations on the playa. Collectively we broadcast music, interviews, information, public service announcements and more. Most of us broadcast 24/7 on the playa.
During those hot daytime hours, when you’re just sitting around your camp, sipping a cocktail, if no one in your camp is spinning, tune into one of Black Rock City’s many fine radio stations.
Like wise if your camp has a large sound system, when you’re not entertaining the masses with a DJ, please consider switching over to a playa radio station during your downtimes.
Here is the current station line up as of today, 8/7/09
88.9 - Radio Electra
90.3 - KROAR
92.1 - Misfit Burner Radio
92.5 - Hot Hits of the 80’s
94.5 - BMIR (Burningman Information Radio)
95.7 - Fusion Valley Radio
98.5 - DubStep FM
99.1 - The BRBC (Black Rock Broadcasting Corporation)
99.5 - Radio Free Burningman
102.3 - SOMA FM
103.3 - Spacenight
104.7 - Black Rock F/X
105.1 - Radio Barking Dog
105.5 - BBC (Bouncy Bouncy Club)
106.5 - K-SVERT “The Flame-Thrower on the Esplanade” (also has a live music stage)
107.3 - Flatulence Amplification Research Team – F.A.R.T. Radio
107.9 - Death Guild Radio Thunderdome
I’ll post an update as we get closer to the event. What kind of radio should you bring? Lots of camps bring a boom box that has a line out input on the back. That makes it easy to hook up to your camps sound system and power off your generator. Some people bring smaller radios that run on batteries. We make great early morning or late night in tent entertainment.
So bring a radio, you won’t regret it.
