I'd be more than happy to share ideas on how to start! It requires no investment other than time and patience. And maybe a little space. PM me, or post here, if you'd like some getting started pointers. You can also join the Art of Poi tribe.
I don't necessarily think it's the best weight loss regimine, though it does wonders for your mind and spirit and helps contribute a lot to your flexibility and overall core strengfth. For me, more than anything, when I spin it puts me in better touch with my physical self and makes me want to be healthier. I can't wait for spring again when I can go outside and play. -

Re: It's quiet in here...
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 9:42 AMBeen needing to cut my calories again to drop a few pounds (5-10) so I can be light enough to do partner lifts and whatnot for performance.
I did pretty well going from nearly 140 to 115-120. Now with the holiday temptations behind me I can do more training. Slowly and surely so that hopefully in a couple months I'll be up to task.
hooping is great to burn calories and fun. I like spinning but none of it really gives me the high heartrate workout as easily, I gotta be full dance out mode to burn calories spinning poi or staff (it builds great upperbody muscle tone though!) . .. . fire sabre is better because I tend to incorporate more martial arts moves into it so it gets very physical.

Re: It's quiet in here...
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 6:55 PMI've been in holiday mode but now want to get out and start belly dancing and hooping again.
Right now I'm focusing on my jewelry and I'm going to start painting, not great for weight loss, but good for the spirit. -

Fri, February 8, 2008 - 4:51 PMI've been going nuts trying to find a home while couch surfing and looking for work so time on tribe has been sorely limited. Itching to re-drop the weight I've been re-collecting. Festive ! :)
Hi everyone! :)

Re: It's quiet in here...
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 9:26 PMWow, I've really transformed my life. We've switched from regular foods to all organic, pasture raised, sustainable meats and other foods, whole grains, very little dairy (I have found after the detox that I'm pretty intolerant of it) and lots of fresh veggies. I'm fortunate enough to have a regular 9 to 5 right now, so I'm home by 5 15 and have a bit o f time to relax and then actually cook wholesome meals. I also have been getting up an hour early every morning and working out with a large variety of exercise dvd's. I started bellydancing class and cardio strip tease this week...I'm down about 8 lbs since my not so productive detox (where most of all I learned I really am sensitive to carbs and, veggies aside, need to really watch myself even with whole grains) and I'm feeling really really good. Also been drinking a lot less wine, as in not drinking it every night :)
But...here is the dilema...how many times I have posted this before? Maybe not here, but elsewhere or just in my head...I keep waiting for the novelty of it all to go away and to "fail" again. I'm kind of interested to pay attention to what it is, exactly, that I slip on, so maybe I can figure out how to not keep doing that :) -

Re: It's quiet in here...
Sat, February 9, 2008 - 7:49 AMAfter gaining 10 lbs due to a neck injury and hormonal birth control, I've joined a gym on a short-term basis (i head out to the rivers/mountains and get serious about cycling and rafting at the end of march), cut down my alcohol, got a non-hormonal IUD, and have been using my midweek ski pass to its fullest.
Gotta get this off - I can't afford new clothes!
