about 200 days til Burning Man, about 75 days til regional season begins.
I figure this is the time of year when people start planning their projects and making their lists. so what do you have on your drawing board? what's on your must-make/must-buy list? are you thinking about practical don't-run-me-over illumination or an art piece?

Re: the countdown begins, what are you doing?
Thu, February 7, 2008 - 7:52 PMThanks for asking. We're working on a new live band, and hoping to stage at least one performance/dance/party on the playa with that (and maybe a gig or too elsewhere). Too early to say if it will come to fruition, but if we can make it sound and look cool enough, we'll do it. Also, our little camp is kind of growing up so we'll be fully self reliant - creating our own shade, kitchen, etc., and not part of a larger camp. Not sure yet what we'll do in terms of decoration, lighting and the hospitallity factor. We've got a lot to do.
We're also planning to bring back Kamila, mutant vehicle, with some improvements. The hardest thing will be getting her there. Only hard because it requires a sturdy car trailer and heavy duty truck (Kamila probably weighs about 3000 pounds). Neither of which I own, and I've never towed anything in my life. Anybody out there that might be able to help with any of that would be welcomed and rewarded of course! Worth a least a couple of tickets... -

Re: the countdown begins, what are you doing?
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 8:41 AMOne of the best things we've done for "hospitality" is to have a separate cooler in our common area with drinks and ice for guests. This way you can serve cold quickie beverages and not have to rummage through your food or private stock coolers. If everyone in camp takes care of the cooler, keeping it stocked, drained, iced, then it works nicely when you have visitors.
we have some of those christmas LED candles with an electric eye. These a great for when we need a little light in camp, say everyone is out but you needs the lights on so as not to be stumbling in in the dark. we just plop one on the coffee table and let it go all week.

Wed, February 27, 2008 - 12:09 AMAnti M,
great idea with the cooler. last year I started planning "guest" items as well. we have extra chairs and cups. I just need to find a good way to mark them. I bought some fabric paint that I think will work with some stencils. don't want those wandering off. and if they do at least they might find their way back. ;)
the idea of those LED xmas candles is adorable. like "we'll leave a light on for ya". a friend got this fat candle that looks real but is actually battery operated. totally mood lighting. we kept laughing about it when she had it out at a party. I'd love to get a few for camp.

Wed, February 27, 2008 - 12:05 AMScott,
good luck with the band. are you going to make a stage at your camp, or be a roaming band?
nice to hear your camp is all growns up. ;) are you thinking "so I can find the camp at night" lighting, or "hey strangers, come into our den" lighting?
yikes, Kamila is huge. what is she based on? meaning, what was she before?
