Hiya all you lighting lovers!
I wanna throw out all my home's incandescent lamps and replace them all with LED lamps... normal table lamps, ceiling fixtures, track lighting and in ceiling cans... both area lighting and spots for mood lighting...
Who has some experience with this? Are LED home lamps bright enough? Can they cover an area effectively?
How about the color changing LED lamps? They have remote controls to change colors... do they work?
Who is a good source to buy from?
Who has some of these? Please tell us your experiences...

Re: LED Home Lights... advice please
Sat, April 4, 2009 - 10:29 PMI would like to know also. We saw some big LED floods at Costco today. Look good for the security lights outside the house, but we have no idea if they're useful or no.

Re: LED Home Lights... advice please
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 7:59 PMHome LED lights are definitely bright enough, with the current generation able to be blindingly bright. Be aware they're costly though... and also be aware that ceiling cans themselves are a problem, as they hide a lot of the light that's being put out. -

Re: LED Home Lights... advice please
Mon, April 20, 2009 - 10:01 PMI'm an electrician and I replaced 11 Bollard style (waist high tube with light at top reflected down) with 4 pole lights for a customer. They worked beautifully for the application used. Just one of many happy stories!
I caution everyone when thinking about LEDs that they take some getting used to. Sometimes the light is "off" color or it doesn't spread "right" from the fixture. I love them and am always looking for new fixtures so I can suggest them to customers.
It's always better to see the light in person before buying it but I realize that isn't always possible. -

Re: LED Home Lights... advice please
Tue, April 21, 2009 - 6:07 PMThanks Thunderhawk...
That's just the problem... NOBODY in San Diego stocks LED lamps so I can't see any of them in use!
I would drive to L.A. to see them if anyone knows of a place that sells and displays them.
Can anybody link any website and actual LED lamp they have bought and are happy with?
Thanx again!

Re: LED Home Lights... advice please
Fri, April 24, 2009 - 10:31 AMThe price of LED's for the home ( 110 volts AC ) with a base that screw into a standard light socket are just starting to come down as more are being produced and people get familiar with quality of LED's and what they can expect in the way of light. I have a few of the color changing super bright single LED fixtures. It can cost as much as $100 for the remote and light but they are bright ( about the output of 75 watt incandescent bulb. I like them, but a fluorescent is still my choice for conservation and cost. -
