Does anyone know if anyone is offering EL Wire classes in the SF Bay Area. I would love to learn the basics. I mean I have seen some awesome EL Wire costumes. I want to know how to do it to.

Re: EL Wire Classes???
Sat, July 7, 2007 - 6:24 AMIt looks like a couple of my old friends are running these classes;
www.lightnwire.com/workshops.html
They used to do the classes for free in people's homes, but it looks like they have outgrown that stage...
Both of them are long time burners, Steve (DR. GLOWIRE ) worked on the original L2K project in '99 and Louis has been a burner since the beach days. They have been working on the lightwire business for years, it looks like they are having some success.
They also have a online store

Re: EL Wire Classes???
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 10:10 AMCool Neon in Oakland is a good place to get EL wire stuff. They alway throw a couple of "soldering parties" at their office, in the weeks prior to Burning Man (i.e. coming up real soon) - check their website for more info. The soldering parties are a good place to learn by seeing and doing, and also to hang out with other people who are doing similar projects.
Their site has a good basic intro on how to do it, and they'll even answer questions over the phone etc. see www.coolneon.com/soldering.html -

Re: EL Wire Classes???
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 1:08 PMI second this suggestion. My wife and I went to one of the parties last year and it was a great place to learn. My wife has been doing some pretty amazing work with el-wire since. If you were out on the playa last year you might have seen her/us. She was the one who made the el-wire crowns and she, her friend and I went out in el-wire crowns and jackets/coats. We were supposed to be royalty, but everyone thought we were the three wisemen.

Re: EL Wire Classes???
Mon, August 13, 2007 - 11:09 PMI would be happy to help you with some ideas and techniques for using el wire to decorate costumes. Just send me an e-mail. I can embroider using angel wire from cool neon. You can make any shape you want as long as it doesn't have corners sharper than the curve you can make around a pencil. You can order pre sodered lengths of EL wire from cool neon. All you need to do is attach the wire to your costume. Tail wire has a tab that can be stapled or glued. I prefer to use angel wire as it is small diameter, but it has to be covered and used inside a garment.
I would be happy to met some people at the burn to show them how I make my soder joints.
